- Boy Abunda wished for a favorable outcome of ABS-CBN franchise renewal
Boy Abunda stands by the Kapamilya network despite the franchise renewal problem it is facing.
In an interview on the sidelines after his contract signing with AMA Online Education, Tito Boy said he’s hoping for the best with regards to ABS-CBN’s franchise renewal.
“Ang feeling ko is, I’m wishing for the best. I’m not familiar with the problem, di ko alam ang detalye ng problema, pero ano man yun ay sana’y maayos,” he said.
Meanwhile, asked what his plans would be if ever the government will not grant ABS-CBN extension of its franchise, Abunda said he will remain loyal with the Kapamilya network till the end.
“Hindi ko alam how I’m going to behave. I am under contract with ABS-CBN and I will remain loyal to ABS.
“My contract is until the end of 2020. So halimbawa mangyari ang mga, kung ano man ang mangyayari, I will address that as it happens. But I will honor my contract and my relationships and my friendships with people in ABS,” said Abunda.
ABS-CBN’s franchise to operate will expire in March 2020.
Currently, the network’s franchise renewal bill is still at the Committee of Legislative Franchises in House of Representative.
Since 2016, the bill has been stalled in congress allegedly because of President Rodrigo Duterte’s public pronouncements against the renewal. At the start of the 18th congress, more lawmakers were pushing for the renewal of the network giant’s franchise.
With a few months to go before March, ABS-CBN’s quest for the franchise renewal is getting brighter as lawmakers from the ruling PDP-Laban party also joined those who pushed for the renewal. And just recently, ABS-CBN was also chosen by the PHISGOC headed by Speaker Alan Cayetano as the official broadcast partner of the 2019 SEA Games opening ceremonies.
