- Atom Araullo pressed Cynthia Villar about women’s rights in the country.
- Sen. Cynthia saw nothing wrong about President Duterte’s misogynistic jokes.
Journalist Atom Araullo quizzed Sen. Cynthia Villar about the status of women’s rights in the country.
In his interview for his documentary Deciphering The Philipines: Women’s Rights in the Duterte Era, Atom questioned Villar about the state of women’s rights under the Duterte administration.
Araullo started by asking Villar about the role of women in Philippine politics.
In response, Cynthia said women in the country are luckier because they are given an almost fair opportunity as men. She cited the example that two women Presidents have already been elected in the Philippines.
“We’re lucky in the Philippines we have elected two woman (sic) presidents samantalang sa US wala pa silang naeelect na babae considereing us is a first world country and we are a developing country di ba?” she said.
Meanwhile, asked about how is it like to be a woman in politics supported by Pres. Rodrigo Duterte, Villar had nothing but good words for him.
“Mabait sya sa mga babae sabi nga nya in one of his speeches eh hindi nga daw sya natatakot sa mga anak nya na lalaki pero dun sa kanyang 2 anak na babae takot sya dyan. And to think that he’s a macho president,” she answered.
Atom also asked her about Duterte’s misogynistic and sexist remarks and the rape jokes he used in his speeches, Villar still defended the President saying it’s part of his personality which he can’t change.
“He was elected president at 71, by that time miski ako I will not be changing my ways at 71 ‘di ba?” Villar responded.
“I think aah, joking sya eh nagjojoke sya eh ang mga tao….” she added
Pressed about the dangers of the President’s pronouncements and misogynistic jokes, Villar could only say she hasn’t experienced such.
“Ah hindi ko naexperience yun. And ahh si President lang naman makakajoke nang ganun other men will not do that. If you can get away with it but the others cannot get away with it you know,” Villar continued.
The interview has made the rounds on social media particularly Twitter.
Let's talk about Cynthia Villar's lack of empathy & the trending 'men are trash'.
In this video, Cynthia okays Duterte's rape jokes & misogynistic remarks because she doesn't experience them.
So yep, men are trash & so are the people who further empower these men. Magsama sila. pic.twitter.com/knBCFoAetD

Tang ina sobrang self-centered talaga nya.

Nakakagigil talaga tong matandang to, di karapat dapat ng paggalang bilang tao.
