It’s Showtime host Vice Ganda earned the ire of a radio broadcaster after he made Pastor Apollo Quiboloy the subject of jokes on the noontime variety show on Tuesday, November 5.
Quiboloy is the founder and leader of the religious group, the Kingdom of Jesus Christ, The Name Above Every Name, Inc.
Quiboloy earlier claimed that he stopped one of the three deadly quakes in Mindanao because he said so.
He said people should be thankful to him.
“Sabi ko, ‘Lindol, huminto ka.’ Huminto,” Quiboloy said in the October 30 episode of Give Us This Day, a weekly TV show produced by the pastor’s religious group.
“Pasalamat kayo sa akin kasi kung hindi ko pina-stop ‘yun, marami kayong magigiba diyan, mamamatay kayo,” he added.
Doing his usual banter with co-host Jhong Hilario in the show’s “Tawag ng Tanghalan” segment, Vice Ganda quipped that Quiboloy would probably be the greatest enemy of Dalisay” portrayed by Coco Martin in the top-rating ABS-CBN TV series, FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.
“Alam mo kung sino ang magiging pinakamatinding kalaban ni Cardo? Naku, kabahan na si Cardo… Feeling ko si Quiboloy, ‘yung nagpahinto ng lindol,” the comedian said, drawing laughter from the audience.
“Si Quiboloy lang ang magpapahinto ng ‘Probinsyano.’ Abangan niyo ‘yan,” he added.
Vice went on to challenge the Pastor to put an end to Ang Probinsyano” and to the monstrous traffic on EDSA.
“Hinahamon kita, Quiboloy. Ipahinto mo na ‘Ang Probinsyano.’ Napahinto mo pala ang lindol eh. Napakayabang niyo pala eh,” he said.
“Sabi niya raw, stop. Sige nga, punta ka ng gitna ng EDSA, stop mo ‘yung traffic doon,” he added.
Broadcaster Mike Abe of DZAR and Sonshine Media Network International, both companies owned by Quiboloy, slammed Vice Ganda for his remarks against the Pastor.
On his radio program Usaping Bayan on Tuesday night, the broadcaster said it was not right for the comedian to make jokes about Quiboloy since he doesn’t know him personally and was disrespectful of the Pastor.
He also mocked the screen name that the comedian is using.
“Baka siguro Vice lang. Vice K… bahala na kayo kung ano yung ‘K.’ Pero Vice Ganda, hindi naman maganda, eh, lalo na yung sinabi, lalo na yung pagtatawanan,” he said.
Abe stressed that his statements are his own and that he is not a member of Quiboloy’s religious group.
The broadcaster then shared why he respects Quiboloy.
“Yung pagrespeto ko kay Pastor, mahigit pa siguro sa member. Grabe po ang pagrespeto ko kay Pastor Quiboloy. Hindi po siya ganun. Lahat sa kanya, tulong,” he said.
“Lahat ho siya ay bigay, kahit hindi kakilala, tinutulungan. Kahit hindi kilala, dinadamitan, pinapakain, pinag-aaral, kinakausap pag may oras. Ganun po siya,” he added.
The broadcaster also refuted the “napakayabang” comment of Vice about Quiboloy, saying the latter is not arrogant and boastful.
“Si Pastor Quiboloy po ay respetado ng napakaraming pulitiko dito sa ating bansa, maging sa abroad. Napakaraming negosyante dito sa ating bansa, respetado ‘yan. At sa buong mundo nirerespeto ‘yan,” he said.
“Meron siyang seven million member. Tapos sasabihin mo, mayabang?” he added.
At this juncture, the broadcaster suddenly uttered a harsh expletive for Vice.
Abe warned Vice not to insult Quiboloy again.
The broadcaster called out the management of ABS-CBN to reprimand the host for insulting someone on TV.
“Sana po ang management ng ABS-CBN ay umaksiyon po kayo. Bakit niyo kinukunsinti yung mga ganung klaseng mga lengguwahe?” he said.
“Kayo, management ng ABS-CBN, bago kayo magsara sa March 20, next year, inyong disiplinahin ang inyong mga talent, hindi puro pera-pera lang kayo,” he added.
Abe also made an appeal to the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) to act on this matter.
“Tinawagan ko ng pansin, MTRCB umaksiyon kayo rito, paglapastangan ito sa industriya ng broadcast,” he said.
