Tawag ng Tanghalan Season 2 Grand Winner Janine Berdin finally answered questions about her frequent absence from television shows for the past two weeks.
Through an Instagram post, the 17-year-old singer revealed that she is currently being treated for Cushing Syndrome. Prior to this, the singer acquired vocal nodules which forced her to take cortisol. Later on, Janine was diagnosed with the disorder resulting from her “body producing too much hormone cortisol over a long period of time.”
Janine wrote, “Halu po! Good evening po sa inyong lahat. Marami pong nagtatanong kung bakit the past few weeks medyo naging inactive ako from Showtime and ASAP.
“Early September nalaman po namin na may vocal nodules po ako, kaya kinailangan ko pong maging exposed sa cortisol o steroids para gumaling ito. Dahil po sa ganitong exposure ng cortisol, nagkaroon po ako ng Cushing’s Syndrome and am currently being treated for it,” she explained.

Janine explained that her current condition caused her to have a swollen face, clarifying that she did not go under the knife.
“Kaya po namamaga mukha ko. Hehe. Hindi po ako nagparetoke at alam ko po na hawig ko si Chuckie. At least hindi na ako mukhang undin ‘di ba? Charot,” she stated.
She stressed that she just taking a break from performing on stage and reiterated that she will not end her singing career.
“On a more serious note po, sumali ako sa Tawag ng Tanghalan to inspire everyone by doing what I love to do – that is singing. If my voice will be compromised, mas masakit ‘yun for me. Mas masakit ‘yun kesa sa mga masasakit na salita niyo dahil hindi kayo nagagandahan or natatabaan kayo sa mukha ko.”
She went on: “Now, as I learn to become a more respectful daughter, I can say that this is still my craft which I want to be the best at. I give my respect to all artists who don’t just easily conform.
“With everything said, I hope you forgive me if I’m not visually up to par with your standards anymore or ever since; you can unfollow me, but I will still sing. And I will never stop singing. Because that is what I want, what I have hoped for, and I am,” she stated.
As she concluded her post, the singer said she was just grateful for her fans and bashers as well for motivating her to be a better singer.
“Thank you din po sa mga buttercups ko. I miss you guys as well! Just as much, actually even more! At alam kong medyo weird ito. Pero thank you sa mga bashers ko. Actually isa kayo sa mga reasons talaga kung bakit sinisipagan kong magpagaling,” she wrote.

Before coming as a famous singer, Janine started her career as a as a child actress, appearing in several ABS-CBN TV series. Janine also appeared in several antagonist roles where she played bully to the protagonist. With her popular renditions of Filipino songs, she was nicknamed as the New Gem of OPM.
