Viva Artists Agency finally announced last October 21, 2019 on Instagram that Matteo Guidicelli will be taking on the title role for Pedro Penduko film that will be directed by Jason Paul Laxamana.
Unexpected project for Matteo
According to Philippine Army 2nd Lieutenant Matteo, he feels overwhelmed being given such an iconic role, but he hopes that he do justice to it.
He said: “Sobrang overwhelming kasi we all know Pedro Penduko is a big, big name in Philippine cinema and Philippine culture kumbaga. So it’s such an honor to hopefully carry it out with justice.”
In addition to that, Matteo shared that when he joined the military, he didn’t know that this will open an opportunity for him.
“I guess timing na timing lang. In the military, I volunteered to do it not thinking what this is gonna bring me in the future. Kumbaga timing na timing lang lahat.”
Matteo on Peduko’s role
Several veteran actors have portrayed the role over the years like Janno Gibbs, Ramon Zamora, Efren Reyes Sr. and Matt Evans. With this, Matteo admitted that he feels pressured.

“Siyempre sobrang pressured po, basta gagawin naming ang lahat we’ve been training for three months already and Direk is writing a whole new script and we’re very excited to give them new taste.”
Matteo, Director Laxamana, and the entire production team will start shooting this coming November.
It can be recalled that Viva chose James Reid for this film, but just last March, the production team decided to put the shooting for the film on hold when James had a shoulder injury.
Less than three weeks after his shoulder injury, James chose to withdraw from the Pedro Penduko project due to spinal injuries. Despite the decision of the Filipino-Australian actor’s decision, Viva appreciated his dedication.
“James has spent over a year training and getting ready for this film and Viva truly appreciates his dedication and commitment to this project. Viva respects James’ decision and wishes him a speedy recovery.”
Now, James is busy with his upcoming Soulmate TV series on ABS-CBN which will start probably next year with Nancy McDonie of Momoland.
