- Carmina Villarroel’s movie Sunod replaced Kris Aquino’s Kampon in the Metro Manila Film Festival 2019 line-up
- Carmina felt overwhelmed by her new film
- The actress doesn’t want to be compared to Kris
Celebrity mom Carmina Villarroel feels overwhelmed by her new movie Sunod produced by Ten17P after it was announced as part of the Metro Manila Film Festival 2019 line-up.
Carmina recounted that her last horror film was Shake Rattle & Roll II, a 1990 horror flick of Regal Films.
Sunod served as the replacement of the horror film Kampon which was supposed to be top-billed by Kris Aquino and Derek Ramsay. It was also disqualified from the MMFF official entries due to Derek backing out from the film resulting from his hectic schedules for a Kapuso teleserye. He was then replaced by Gabby Concepcion but the request for cast change did not make the deadline.
She further narrated, “Nung in-offer nila sa akin ‘to, sinabi nga nila na for filmfest ito kaya nga ang aga naming nag-shoot. Kasi nung nagsusyuting na kami in-announce na yung first 4 hindi kami nakapasok, so lahat kami, ‘Ay… pero hindi, hindi, may pag-asa pa, i-submit natin yung finished product.’
“Hindi naman sa ano, but I’m really confident with our movie, with the story itself saka iba yung atake ni direk sa horror na ito, eh, so medyo slight confident ako na, ‘Kaya ‘to’ kasi it’s really something new, eh.
Carmina also said that her film was fully supported by the Queen of All Media whom she fondly called ‘Ninang’.
“Magka-text kami ni Ninang Kris kasi nga nag-message ako sa kanya regarding that tapos sumagot siya, sabi niya sa akin, ‘Sana inaanak kayo yung makapasok do’n.’ ‘Ay naku Ninang, sana nga magdilang-anghel ka.’ So nagdilang-anghel nga siya.
Kris has been known for several horror films including Feng Shui, Sukob, and Segunda Mano which helped her claim the title Queen of Horror.
Though she knew that there will be expectations of her, Carmina stressed that she doesn’t want to be compared to Kris.
Wala akong pinalitan, wala akong… wala.
“Basta ako nag-enjoy lang saka first time ng director namin na ma-experience ang Metro Manila Filmfest, and ako naman, like I said, dalaga pa ako nung huli akong nag-filmfest,” she concluded.
It was on Tuesday, September 3, when talent manager and Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) spokesperson Noel Ferrer said that Sunod will take over the Kampon‘s slot.
IDirected by Carlo Ledesma, Mylene Dizon, Susan Africa, and Kate Alejandrino are also part of the cast.
