- Alden Richards is looking forward to a healthy competition with rival Starla.
Kapuso actor Alden Richards is looking forward to their new competition in primetime, Starla.
Starting Monday, October 7, Alden’s The Gift will now compete with ABS-CBN’s latest drama fantaserye Starla starring Soap Opera Queen Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo.
“Of course, we’re looking forward po. Panibago na namang istorya ang ikukuwento ng kabilang istasyon po,” he said.
“We’re very much open to that and kung ano man ang itinatakbo ng istorya namin ngayon sa The Gift, susundan lang po namin yun para, at least, malinaw po ang nagiging mensahe ng show.
“We’re very much happy with our project and we wish, yung katapat namin, well din,” Alden added.
Prior to Starla, The Gift went head to head against Angel Locsin’s The General’s Daughter. Although the Kapamilya action-drama teleserye managed to lead the competition, the Kapuso drama slowly and steadily climbed up the ratings board.
From a significant gap of 9.5% with its pilot episode, The Gift managed to trim down The General’s Daughter‘s lead to its lowest at 1.9% on September 24.
Alden’s fresh success from the movie Hello, Love, Goodbye which is now the highest-grossing Filipino film of all time, possibly translated to The Gift‘s viewership. The Kapuso network show is luckily riding on the current wave of Alden’s popularity post-Hello, Love, Goodbye.
But can the Kapuso teledrama continue its upward trend?
With Judy Ann Santos’ return to primetime and her proven track record as a top-rater, The Gift will again have a hard time capturing the timeslot throne. And with Starla‘s storyline which appeals to a younger audience, it will be another challenge for The Gift.
