- Ogie Diaz aired his reaction to the third gender restroom issue
- He was in full support for the SOGIE Bill
- Ogie disapproved of Gretchen Diez’s plans of running for public office
Ogie Diaz gave his reaction to the issue involving transwoman Gretchen Diez. Ogie, a member of the LGBTQ+ community, expressed his disappointment about the negative feedback gained by the the SOGIE Bill or Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity and Expression Equality Bill which was dragged into the issue. He claimed that a deeper understanding of the legislation is needed before commenting about it.
Ogie also expressed his yearning to unite the LGBTQ+ community despite the disagreement of its members on pushing the SOGIE Bill.
So sana nagtagumpay ako.”

The actor-reporter explained that he was in favor of equality, but not same sex marriage which he clarified was unspecified in the bill. Though he is in full support for the proposed bill, Ogie took his stand in opposing the establishment of comfort rooms for the third gender.
Unless meron kang dalawang ari. Mamili ka alin duun yung tutuluan ng ihi,” he said.
He also aired his message for his fellow members in the LGBTQ+ community.
Ogie aired disparaging remarks about Gretchen Diez who earlier stated about her plans to run for public office.
Celebrities such as Vice Ganda have remained stalwart about supporting the bill. He recently reacted to Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III’s controversial remarks on the transgender community, calling his statement “a joke” and “unfair”.
Meanwhile, celebrity hairdresser and businessman Ricky Reyes, an openly gay man, went viral online after slamming his fellow LGBTQ+ members and opposing the SOGIE Bill. According to him, LGBTs should stop forcing themselves into competitions and establishments only made for men and women.
The SOGIE Bill, filed by minority Sen. Risa Hontiveros, aims to prevent and penalize discriminatory acts against a person’s sexual orientation. It gained controversy in the aftermath of transwoman Gretchen Diez being refused entry to the women’s bathroom which later led to her arrest
During his speech at Malacañang last September 10, Tuesday, President Rodrigo Duterte was asked if would certify the SOGIE equality bill as urgent and he answered that he would do whatever would make the LGBT community happy.
“Yes, whatever would make the mechanisms, what would make them happy. Gusto ko, kagaya kay Senator Enrile, gusto ko happy siya,” Duterte said, referring to former Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile’s campaign tagline.
But recently, Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo clarified that Duterte referred to the Senate Bill No. 689 or anti-discrimination bill during his speech.
“He was referring to an anti-discrimination bill, not SOGIE bill,” said Panelo on Wednesday, September 11 in an interview with CNN Philippines.
