Senator and actor Manny Pacquiao will be playing a historical figure in his titular movie Malvar.
He will breathe life to the role of General Miguel Malvar, a Filipino general who served during the Philippine Revolution and subsequently during the Philippine-American War.
The upcoming historical film will tackle the heroic acts of the general which is largely unknown to many Filipinos.
Jose “Kaka” Balagtas was chosen as the director of the film which will have a launching event this Friday, September 27, at the Batangas Provincial Capital Dream Zone Auditorium, Batangas City, in celebration of the 154th birthday of the late general.
According to its director, the film will be shot at the Fr. Pio National Shrine owned by the Malvar family and in Bay Laguna, a 40-hectare lot allocated for the establishment of the Malvar Ecumenical and Film World Center.
The film is said to be one of the biggest films this year with a P100-M budget under JMV Production. Direk Kaka and Manny have already worked together before on several projects.
Meanwhile, Manny’s leading lady in the film hasn’t been chosen yet but the senator hopes that TV Drama Queen Judy Ann Santos would join them. The actress is currently busy taping for the new series Starla. Aside from this, Judy Ann is also promoting her upcoming film Mindanao with Brillante Mendoza which aims to compete in international filmfests.
Manila Mayor Isko Moreno and former Laguna Governor ER Ejercito are two of the possible cast members of Malvar. Other details about the film have yet to be revealed.
Other actors who have taken on historical roles include Raymond Bagatsing in Quezon’s Game, John Arcilla in Heneral Luna, and Jeorge “ER” Estregan in El Presidente.
Manny’s previous movies include Wapakman (2009), Brown Soup Thing (2008), Anak ng Kumander, and Lisensyadong Kamao (2005).
