- Jessy Mendiola stated her reason why she cancelled her transfer to GMA Network
- The actress has been on a TV hiatus for years
- She is now part of the upcoming afternoon series Sandugo
Kapamilya actress Jessy Mendiola has revealed the reason she decided to cancel her plans of moving to GMA Network. She confirmed that her new series Sandugo stopped her from leaving ABS-CBN.
“Yes po. I just want to set it straight. Yes po,” said Jessy during the press conference of the teleserye last September 25.
The Kapamilya star was last seen on TV through her guest role in FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano as Andrea “Andi” B. Collins while her last lead role was in the 2015 series You’re My Home.
The actress had to turn down several projects in the past. When asked about why she said yes to Sandugo, the actress answered that it was the “greyness” of her role that inspired her to sign on.
I think that’s one of the main reasons why I said yes.”
Jessy is now hoping that her new role will leave a mark on the audience and showcase her versatility as an actress.
“Actually kaya ‘din po tinanggap ko ‘yung role kasi po feeling ko kaya hindi ako nagkakaroon ng chance na patunayan ‘yung pag-arte ko kasi po hindi ako nabibigyan ng kakaibang role. So hopefully po sana mag-marka. There’s always a first time for everything,” Jessy said.
During her TV hiatus which lasted for years, Jessy shared that she learned how to strike a balance in several aspects of her life.
“’Pag may pagkakataon po na parang hindi ka na nagkakaroon ng passion or excitement ‘pag tumatanggap ka ng project, might as well na ‘wag ka na lang tumanggap kasi siyempre you won’t be able to give your hundred percent, so it would be really unfair for sa mga katrabaho mo, sa mga bosses o sa production. Para sa akin po, at this point, as long as it excites me, as long as I have something to prove to myself, gusto ko pong tumanggap ng maraming iba’t ibang role,” she said.
“I’m very thankful po nabigyan ako ng role at ng show ulit. Marami na rin pong mga shows na binigay pero ako din mismo sa sarili ko na hindi rin po ako ready and that would be really unfair to the people na nagbibigay po sa akin ng trabaho. I promise po this time, I think and I feel that I’m really having fun with my character. So eto 200% percent po ito,” she explained garnering applause from the crowd.
Sandugo serves as the comeback series of Jessy along with Ejay Falcon, Aljur Abrenica, and Elisse Joson. The series will premiere on ABS-CBN’s Kapamilya Gold afternoon block on September 30, 2019, replacing Los Bastardos.
Jessy will play the role of Melissa “Melai” Pamintuan in the action-packed teleserye which will tackle the story of two families who are linked by love and law.
Jessy was known for her roles in the series Must Date the Playboy (2015), Maria Mercedes (2013) and Paraiso (2012).
