- Gretchen Diez is currently the subject of criticisms online
- She announced that she is open to entering politics
- She gained fame after her recorded video went viral
Transwoman Gretchen Diez is currently gaining attention and criticisms after her video blew up the internet.
Diez had recorded a video of her confrontation with a cleaning lady who led her out of the female restroom at the Farmer’s Plaza Mall in Cubao, Quezon City last August 12, Monday. She ended up in handcuffs at the Quezon City Police Department (QCPD) Station 7 for attempting to use the female restroom but was freed after the mall’s management dropped the charges against her.
She also filed a complaint against the janitress due to her alleged discrimination despite the latter’s apology.
Diez also met with some senators following the incident, particularly Senators Bong Go, Imee Marcos, Manny Pacquiao, Ronald dela Rosa, Miguel Zubiri, and Pia Cayetano.
She recently said in an interview with a local news outlet that she is “willing to maximize all of the power” she has to advocate for the LGBTQ+ community even if takes “running for office.”
This led many netizens to doubt her motives while some called her “opportunistic” and a “fame whore”.

#gretchendiez issue has gone so far.
Just to clarify things:1. Don't call gretchen transgender kasi meron pa rin syang titi.
2. CR is biologically made to separate men from women.
3. He can still produce semen.
4. His CR issue can never be a ticket to run for a seat. https://t.co/InA4xzdiqn

I'm also not so keen about Gretchen Diez running for public office, especially bc she might run under Du30, but Filipinos will literally and regularly vote for clowns and thieves without questioning credibility or integrity. What makes the situation different? The transphobia.

You will run for office?? You only understand your rights not the rights of others. That is selfishness! You want change?? Most of our officials are already selfish then how came you will be different?? You are not the change. You are dreaming. #gretchendiez

We sympathized with you. We understand your sentiments. We heard you. But i think you're being too much already. The immediate attention you received makes me feel that you're now being a fame whore. Andaming issues sa bansa natin that needs more attention 'teh.. #gretchendiez

Dear Gretchen Diez,
I’m glad you got your comeuppance regarding the toilet issue. That truly was unfair.
Regarding running for a position in government, whoever advised you, it’s ill given. 15 minutes of fame isn’t enough to catapult you there. Neither is a fist bump.
Earn it.

Gretchen Diez says she is open to run for public office to “maximize all the power” in advocating for equality and change for the LGBTQ+ community.

In an interview with Pinky Webb for CNN, Diez claimed that she stood as the face and voice of LGBTQIA+ community. But instead of gaining sympathy, Diez received backlash from her fellow LGBTQIA+ members including TV host and actor Arnell Ignacio.
Though Diez is enjoying her 15-minute fame, Ignacio believed that she will be soon forgotten as new issues rise up.
“Ang kasikatan ng tao ay yung oras lang mismo nung ikaw ay pinag-uusapan. Wala kang ka-value value diyan. Pag may sumunod na eksena, tapos ka na. Nega na siya eh,” the TV host said in a radio program of DZRH.
He added:“Ang LGBT, naging ultra-sensitive na eh. Sinasabi ko sa inyo, I’m warning you, mawawala yung inyong galing sa diskarte, sa pakikisama, sa pagiging gustuhin ng karamihan.
“Kung magiging ganyan tayo na kada isang kalmot sa atin…ano tayo ngawa nang ngawa. Alam mo, hindi naman tayo inaapi rito eh. Ang hinihingi na natin ay hindi para sa atin.
“I really do not agree with all these. I do not agree. Kasi…yung ang gusto lang natin yung pananaw lang natin.
“I mean for us to be accepted nang mahusay sa isang society, kailangan marunong din tayong tumanggap na ang mga kasama mo rito ay hindi mo rin kapareho, at magkakasundo kayo whether sila ay hindi mo kapareho o pareho. Di ba madalas nga ang mga bading ang nanlalait eh,” Ignacio shared.
He also added that one must review and fully understand the SOGIE Equality bill or Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression bill before giving rash opinions about it.
