Julia was the team captain for the blue volleyball team which was defeated by Kim Chiu’s red team
Julia’s mother, Marjorie Barretto, showed her support by posting a video on her Instagram account of her kissing Julia on the forehead after the volleyball game. But in the comment section, an Instagram user said, “NUMBER 3 rin si @andersongerald <3,” in reference to the number on their jerseys.
Marjorie nipped the issue in the bud but saying that Julia has worn jersey number 3 since her high school volleyball varsity days.
“Let me correct this before the story gets big and out of hand again. Number 3 has always been Julia’s jersey number since her high school volleyball varsity days. No special meaning [heart emoticon],” Marjorie replied.
In past interviews for the Imus Bandera in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL), Gerald explained that he chose number 3 because of his idol, NBA Hall of Famer Allen Iverson.
Incidentally, just like Marjorie, Gerald’s mom, Vangie Opsima, went on the defense of her son as well.
