- Kelley Day opened up about having alopecia
- She wanted to become an inspiration to others through her story
- She was listed as an official candidate of Miss World Philippines 2019 a few weeks ago
Aspiring beauty queen Kelley Day opened up about her struggle with alopecia—a medical condition that causes hair loss—during her Miss World Philippines introduction video.
Kelley became emotional and revealed that she had been suffering from the disease for almost a year. She also admitted that has a bald spot at the back of her head.
With tears from her eyes, Kelley said that her advocacy is to “raise consciousness for auto-immune diseases such as psoriasis and alopecia.”
“This is the first time that I’m opening up about my alopecia situation where I have a bald spot at the back of my head. It took me almost a year ever since I found it in October 2018 to actually deal with it and only a couple of weeks ago have I started treating it properly,” she said as she cried.
The beauty queen said that she was afraid about revealing her disease before due to embarrassment since she is a celebrity after all.
“I had so much fear and embarrassment about it especially in my line of work where I always get my hair styled. People take photos of me all the time,” she said.

The Kapuso star imparted that having alopecia is okay and she wanted people to “know how to deal with it properly.”
“And my advocacy is that I want people to know that it’s okay and I want people to know how to deal with it properly with my story,” Kelley added.
She said that the Miss World 2019 pageant prompted her to open up about her struggle and is now ready to inspire others through her story.
“With my story I want everyone to feel encouraged about who they are. I want people to see that no one’s perfect,” she said. “I think without Miss World Philippines I wouldn’t have opened up about this. So I want to make the most of this platform. So please help me make a change,” she said.
Kelley was listed as candidate number 24 of Miss World Philippines 2019 a few weeks ago along with Kapuso stars Isabelle de Leon and Michelle Dee.
