- Kris Aquino reconciles with Mar Roxas on the death anniversary of Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr last August 21, 2019
- Aquino and Roxas had not been on speaking terms after the latter’s campaign manager supposedly blamed Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III for his defeat in the 2016 Presidential Election
- Aquino also apologized to Roxas’s mother
Speaking at the commemoration of Benigno “Ninoy” S. Aquino Jr.’s 36th death anniversary last Wednesday, August 21, at the Manila Memorial Park in Parañaque City, actress-host Kris Aquino took the opportunity to reconcile with former DILG (Department of the Interior and Local Government) Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas II.
The former Kris TV host invited Roxas to join her before the tomb of her late father for a photo.
“Please join me and let’s take a picture so Noy sees it,” she said referring to her older brother, former President Benigno “Noynoy” S. Aquino III who was not able to attend the event due to health issues.
Kris remarked, “I just want to do it publicly. I’m sorry. I’m sorry for everything that happened. Nagselos ako because I felt Noy chose you over me. I hope we can let bygones be bygones.”
This, months after Aquino rebuked Roxas’ campaign manager for allegedly blaming her older brother Noynoy for Roxas’ defeat in the 2016 presidential election.
Aside from this, Aquino had been in a cold war with Roxas’ wife, Korina Sanchez, after the latter featured her former husband, basketball player James Yap on her show Rated K in 2018.
Kris had turned to different social media platforms to air her sentiments and rage towards the Rated K host. Her posts went viral on social media earning mixed reactions from netizens.
For Aquino, what her former co-host did was a slap in the face, as she could have featured Yap at another time, not when her sentiments against her former husband was still fresh.
“Sampal sa mukha ko na bigyan ng papuri yung lalaking winalanghiya kami ni Bimb ng ilang beses. Manunumbat ako – nag TVC kaming mga mag nanay para kay Mar. Ano ba naman ang konting delicadeza at hayaan na lumamig muna ang issue? Hindi ko hinhingi na kaibiganin ako-wag lang ako sampalin.”
Aside from this, Aquino also extended her apology to Roxas’ mother who is also her godmother.
“Baka ho hindi niyo alam [ang] mommy niya (Roxas), ninang ko sa binyag and she was really so good to me,” she told the crowd.
Facing Roxas she added,” Tell Ninang Judy, I’m also sorry,” which Roxas responded with a nod and said: “No problem.”
