Star Cinema’s latest offering Hello, Love, Goodbye has given Philippine cinema new positive energy.
On its opening day Wednesday, July 31, the Kathryn Bernardo-Alden Richards movie has grossed a whopping 34 million pesos in box office receipts.
This is a shot in the arm for the Filipino movie industry which is suffering very much from foreign competition.
Since the start of 2019, the majority of the local films released in cinemas have fared miserably at the box office. A few exceptions were LizQuen’s Alone/Together which earned 370 million at the box office, Charo Santos and Bea Alonzo’s Eerie which generated 201 million, and Jodi Santa Maria’s Clarita which got box office earnings of 70 million.
Hello, Love, Goodbye is Kathryn and Alden’s first movie team-up. Who would have thought that the two would have the chance to work together given the intense network and love team rivalries in the country?

Many were skeptical about the tandem knowing how possessive their fandoms are. But the magic of their individuality has worked to make Hello, Love, Goodbye a huge success at the box office.
Hello, Love, Goodbye is another crossover project of Star Cinema since Alden Richards is a GMA contract star.
The romantic comedy film is directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina and written by Carmi Raymundo. It centers on the story of two overseas Filipino workers in Hong Kong, Joy played by Kathryn and Ethan played by Alden. Ethan works as a bartender and is keen on pursuing Joy romantically. Joy, on the other hand, is a domestic helper who has no other priority but to provide for her family in the Philippines.
Aside from the kilig factor of the film, it is also a good eye-opener on the real plight of OFWs in Hong Kong. The film also offers a virtual tour of the city.
