“It’s like I can do anything now,” says 23-year-old Addy Raj after his decision to go freelance.
In an interview by PEP.ph last July 11, Addy revealed that he is no longer being handled by GMA Artist Center.
As a freelance actor, his career is now under the care of Powerhouse ARTE Inc.
But why did Addy decide to be with Powerhouse and become a freelance actor?
He stated, “Well, I just wanted Powerhouse to be my management and then when I signed with them, they said it’s better to be freelance.
“Lalo na para sa akin kasi, di ba, dayuhan ako? So hindi ako pumapasok sa lahat ng klaseng roles.
“Mas maganda kung hindi ako exclusive kasi bihira lang ang mga roles na bagay sa akin so mas maganda kung open ako sa lahat.”
Addy clarified that he didn’t cut ties with GMA Network. Despite not being under the care of GMA anymore, he can still do projects with the Kapuso Network.
A matter of fact, he recently appeared in an episode of the Saturday show of GMA, Maynila.
According to the actor: “I’m on very good terms with GMA, there was no problem, whatsoever, that’s why I’m still getting projects with GMA.
“I might actually have a travel show by the end of this year with GMA.”
Now, the Indian actor is looking forward to his first guest appearance in the weekend drama anthology of ABS-CBN, Maalaala Mo Kaya (MMK).
“I’m super excited actually for that. It’s gonna be my first negative character, I’ll be growing my beard to look like a bad guy.”
However, did you know that this is not the first time that the Meant To Be star has been seen on an ABS-CBN show?
He actually started his career at the Kapamilya station when he joined the reality singing competition, I Love OPM in 2016. He may not have won, it started his career in showbiz.
Addy inked an exclusive contract with GMA Network and GMA Artist Center in 2016. His first acting role as a Kapuso was when he was tapped as one of the leading men of Barbie Forteza in the romance-comedy series, Meant To Be in 2016 alongside Ken Chan, Jak Roberto, and Ivan Dorschner. He portrayed the character of Jai Patel, an Indian suitor of Billie Bendiola (potrayed by Barbie) in the show.
From there, he appeared in various shows of GMA Network such as Dear Uge, Daig Kayo ng Lola Ko, Super Ma’am, Sirkus, Kapag Nahati Ang Puso, and Maynila.
“Ngayon freelance ako, pwede ako tumawid,” he said.
“So, it’s like I can do anything now,” Addy added.
Aside from his guesting in MMK, Addy is part of The Panti Sisters, one of the 10 entries to be shown during the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino 3, which will run from September 13 to 19, 2019 in Philippine cinemas.
The Panti Sisters is his first-ever big screen project. Other cast members include Paolo Ballesteros, Martin del Rosario, and Christian Bables who play the titular roles.
