According to Media Newser Philippines, Unang Hirit news anchor Rhea Santos has decided to bid goodbye to GMA Network’s News and Public Affairs division after 18 years of service.
Based on the news story, Santos will have her last appearance on the morning show on Friday, August 2.
The 40-year-old broadcast journalist is set to migrate to Canada with her family next month and pursue digital journalism as well.
As reported by the aforementioned site, Balitanghali Weekend anchor Mariz Umali, who has been a semi-regular on Unang Hirit since May, will succeed Santos. The official announcement has yet to be made.
At Your Service, her very first solo program was a recipient of a Gold Camera award at the 2005 US International Film and Video Festival.
In 2016, she shared her experience working in GMA Network’s morning show to the Media Newser Philippines.

Santos was part of GMA News and Public Affairs shows including Frontpage: Ulat Ni Mel Tiangco (2003), At Your Service: Star Power (2004), Pinoy Abroad (2005), News on Q (2005), Draw the Line (2005), DoQmentaries (2008), Reporter’s Notebook (2009), and Tunay Na Buhay (2011).
At Your Service, her very first solo program was a recipient of a Gold Camera award at the 2005 US International Film and Video Festival. Her shows also earned recognitions like Best Travel Show Host for Pinoy Abroad at Star Awards for TV 2006, Best Morning Show Host for Unang Hirit at Star Awards for TV 2001, 2002, 2008, 2013, and 2015.
Santos is married to Hotshots Burger owner Carlo de Guzman since 2004 and both have two kids.
