Digital services leader PLDT Home partners with the Philippine Educational Theatre Association (PETA) to bring back the all-original Filipino musical Rak of Aegis. On its much-awaited 7th season opening, Rak of Aegis returns with a star-studded gala night on July 5 at the PETA Theater Center in New Manila, Quezon City.
Rak of Aegis features classic hits from Filipino pop rock band Aegis including karaoke favorites “Halik,” “Sinta,” and “Basang Basa sa Ulan.” Since it opened in 2014, the show has gone on to rekindle an appreciation for original Pinoy theater and music. It’s also one of the longest-running musicals in contemporary Philippine theater, capturing a diverse audience with its outstanding performances and heartwarming story that reflects the daily struggles of many Filipinos.
The iconic musical phenomenon is about a small-town girl, Aileen, who hails from a perpetually-flooded Manila neighborhood, Barangay Venezia. The internet becomes an important factor in the musical’s awe-inspiring story when Aileen realizes that the best way to get up from her humble surroundings is to harness the web’s star-making power, pursue her passion for singing and music, become a viral YouTube sensation, and make money off of her newfound fame. Of course, things are not always that easy, as there are challenges along the way.

“We’re delighted to be part of this iconic musical and empower the OPM industry by supporting our very own Filipino talents,” PLDT-Smart SVP and Consumer Business Market Development Head Oscar A. Reyes, Jr. said. “Rak of Aegis represents the stories of many Filipinos who deserve the strongest connections at home so that they can achieve their dreams and enhance their lives. As a brand attuned to the needs of our customers, PLDT Home continues its commitment to provide Filipino families the strongest connections and meaningful digital experiences powered by the country’s fastest broadband at home.”
The seventh season of the popular rock musical will feature some of the most iconic OPM artists as part of its cast: household name singer and actor-comedian Randy Santiago as Fernan, multi-award winning singer-songwriter Noel Cabangon as Kiel, and multi-award winning world music performer and actress Bayang Barrios sharing the role of Mary Jane with prominent movie actress and singer Jenine Desiderio.
Randy, Noel, Bayang, and Jenine will be joined by new cast members: Wish 107.5 Wishcovery 2018 1st Runner Up Kimberly Baluzo (Aileen); Leah Patricio from The Voice of the Philippines Season 2 (Mercy); GMA artist and singer Derrick Monasterio (Tolits); Viva Artist and two-time PhilPop grand prize winner Yumi Lacsamana (ensemble); and up and coming theater artists Ashe Uy, Marynor Madamesila, Lemuel Silvestre, and Gerard Dy as members of the ensemble.
Another exciting attraction is the comeback of the star-studded line-up of original cast members including Aicelle Santos and Kim Molina as Aileen; Isay Alvarez-Seña and Sweet Plantado-Tiongson as Mary Jane; Robert Seña and Renz Verano as Kiel; Kakai Bautista and Neomi Gonzales as Mercy, Jerald Napoles, Pepe Herrera and Joshua Bulot as Tolits; Myke Salomon, Poppert Bernadas and Vince Lim as Kenny; Ron Alfonso and Jimi Marquez as Jewel.
Rak of Aegis’ return is in partnership with Organisasyon ng mga Pilipinong Mang-aawit (OPM) and The PhilPop MusicFest Foundation (Philpop). It will run from July 5 to September 29, 2019.
