- Nadine Lustre reacted to not being chosen as Darna
- Many celebrities including film directors Erik Matti and Treb Monteras rooted for Nadine to portay the role
- Jane de Leon was announced as the new Darna
Nadine Lustre was one of the top choices of fans to portray the iconic role of Darna after Liza Soberano’s withdrawal from the movie due to her right index finger injury.
The Multimedia Princess said she was willing to take on the role but she was not expecting that it will be given to her.
The clamor of fans became more constant when Nadine reenacted Darna’s transformation in a vlog by singer Donnalyn Bartolome.
But among almost 300 celebrity hopefuls, 20-year-old actress Jane de Leon was chosen to play the role of the Filipino heroine. This was announced by the ABS-CBN’s Star Cinema on July 17, Wednesday.The young actress is known for her supporting role in the hit primetime series Halik.

As for Nadine, there were no hard feelings and she said she was happy for Jane whom she met through their common friends.
“It’s nice na iyong imahe ni Darna, ako iyong nakikita nila,”she said.
“But I mean, in the very beginning naman po, like what I said, I was never expecting and I didn’t audition din naman.”
She was also honored that she was picked by many to portray the role though she didn’t auditioned for it.
“Honestly I’m just really honored that people like parang they want me to be their Darna kasi I didn’t put any effort for the movie, I didn’t audition or anything,” she told in a separate interview of CNN Philippines’ The Source.
“To be compared or to be likened kay Darna na, you know, independent, powerful, it’s really nice,” she added.

Directors Erik Matti and Treb Monteras also named Nadine as a possible replacement of Liza.
Nadine top bills the dance film Indak with Sam Concepcion.Produced by Viva films, it will be released in cinemas on August 7.
According to Darna director Jerrold Tarog, the decision to pick De Leon was a “unanimous one,” adding that management wanted a new face to take on the task of reintroducing Darna to a new generation.
Jane became emotional upon knowing that she was chosen for the role in a meeting attended by ABS-CBN executives, including the company’s president and CEO Carlo Katigbak.
As seen on the video uploaded by Star Cinema last Thursday afternoon, she first explained that will she be giving justice to Darna, saying she can “surrender all” for the iconic komiks character.
“Iyong desire pati ‘yung heart ko po talaga ay nandoon po kay Darna,” she said.
Both Liza and Angel Locsin, who backed out of the role, congratulated Jane.
Darna is an upcoming Philippine superhero film based on the comic book superheroine created by Mars Ravelo and Nestor Redondo.
