- Joshua Garcia admitted that he still loves former flame Julia Barretto
- The two recently decided to just be ‘best friends’
- Joshua and Janella Salvador are now teaming up for the upcoming series The Killer Bride
Rumors about the breakup of the tandem of Joshua Garcia and Julia Barretto spread out in the last few months and left fans disheartened.
While there was no clear reason for this, many have speculated that the kissing scene between Julia and her Between Maybes co-actor Gerald Anderson brought trouble to the JoshLia tandem.
Since then, the two became distant with each other. Despite this, Joshua assures fans that the JoshLia love team will still be there no matter what happens.
“Hindi mawawala ‘yung JoshLia,” Joshua said when the name of his onscreen partner and former flame Julia Barretto cropped up during an interview.
“Ang mensahe ko for the fans is ‘wag na silang malungkot… Gagawa pa rin kami ng mga pelikula, may mga projects pa kaming pagsasamahan,” he continued.
Joshua and Julia will soon be seen in the upcoming zombie movie Block Z under the direction of Mikhail Red.
The director recently unveiled the teaser together with the movie stars Joshua, Julia, Maris Racal, and McCoy De Leon at the ToyCon PH 2019 held last June 28.
Fans did not fail to notice that Joshua and Julia were clingy with each other during the event.
Addressing the speculations, the two admitted that they decided to just be “best friends.” Joshua said that he’s nevertheless happy and how things are going between him and Julia.
“Kung ano man ang mangyari, kung magkabalikan man or something, ‘di natin alam. Only God knows,” he said.
The actor also admitted about his feelings for Julia and acknowledged her as a special person despite their split up.
“Special pa rin siya, sobra. Mahal ko pa rin ‘yung taong ‘yun. Tagal namin nagsama at nagkatrabaho, eh. At least, hindi nawala ‘yung friendship namin. ‘Yun na lang pinagpapasalamat ko. Sa ngayon muna, best friends muna po kami. Kumbaga, mag-stick muna kami doon kasi doon po kami mas magaan sa isa’t isa,” he added.
Their tandem’s unmistakable chemistry was first recognized in the 2016 Metro Manila Film Fest entry Vince and Kath and James, which led to their next movie Love You to the Stars and Back in 2017. Since then, the two became inseparable in public.
The pair also starred in the romantic comedy film I Love You, Hater in 2018 and their last teleserye was Ngayon at Kailanman in which ended in January 2019.
Joshua will headline the gothic romance series The Killer Bride along with new leading lady Janella Salvador and Maja Salvador.

JoshNella fans are now rooting for the two. However, Joshua described his working relationship with his new leading lady as “professional.”
The series centers on the story of Camilla (Maja) whose ghost will seek revenge through Emma, a mortuary makeup artist (Janella), after apparently getting killed on the day of her wedding to a scion of a rival family, Vito (Geoff Eigenmann).
Directed by Dado Lumibao, the series is scheduled for airing this August.
It will also star Eddie Gutierrez, Aurora Sevilla, Lara Quigaman, Ara Arida, James Blanco, Sam Concepcion, Cris Villanueva, Jobelle Salvador, Dominic Ochoa, Alexa Ilacad, Loren Burgos, Pamu Pamorada, Malou de Guzman, Pepe Herrera, Eric Nicolas, Keanna Reeves, and Neil Coleta.
