- Christian Bables revealed on social media that he attended and supported the Pride Parade 2019
- His was questioned by some netizens for joining the event
- Christian responded to their comments and explained his support for the LGBTQIA+ community
Christian Bables is one of the most promising actors of Philippine showbiz. He has made sterling performances in Jun Lana’s Die Beautiful and Chito Roño’s Signal Rock, and was part of the 2018 top-rating series, Halik.
He recently made noise on social media after admitting he was an LGBTQIA+ supporter.
It was on July 1 when the actor revealed through a Facebook post that he stood for LGBTQIA+ community and joined the Metro Manila Pride Parade 2019 held at Marikina Sports Center on June 29.
“Rise up for equality. San Mig Light and I are rising up for equality. We are here FOR and WITH the community who continuously fight to raise their rainbow flags. We stand with the community who continuously strive to fight for EQUAL RIGHTS. Happy #Pride from a proud ally! #MahabahabangUsapan #ProudAllies #ResistTogether,” Christian posted together with a photo of himself attending the Pride March 2019.
However, a Facebook friend of his thought that the actor is now part of LGBTQIA+ community after he made his post. Out of confusion, she then shared his post on Facebook with the caption: “Why?????? I deserve an explanation Chris (with a sad face emoji)”
Another netizen commented on the shared post saying: “I told you”
Upon seeing this, Christian did not hold back and commented with a lengthy statement on the same post to explain his side and pointed out what does “LGBTQIA ally” really means.
“Karen and Shara, para sa kaalaman niyo, hindi porke naniniwala kami sa ipinaglalabang pantay na karapatan ng komunidad ng LGBT, ay bakla or tomboy na kami. Ang LGBT ALLY ay kakampi ng kanilang komunidad. Ibig sabihin naniniwala ang mga ‘allies’ sa pantay na karapatan na dapat natatanggap ng bawat miyembro ng kanilang komunidad, dahil TAO sila. Example, si Catriona Gray-she’s an LGBT ally, ibig bang sabihin non tomboy siya? Hindi. Ayan ang explanation na dapat niyong natatanggap at hindi explanation mula sa tanong na, ‘bakit umattend ng pride event si Christian?’ (Dahil ayan ang ibig ipahiwatig ng caption mo)
“Piliin niyong matuto. Do not settle for the nakaugaliang ‘Gender Stereotyping’—ibinabase ang gender ng isang tao base sa nakaugaliang pang jujudge.Example ang babae pag hindi pino gumalaw tomboy na agad. Ang lalaki pag hindi padaskol magsalita, bakla na agad.
“Anong basehan niyo para matawag na ‘tomboy’ or ‘bakla’ ang isang babae o lalake? Tanungin niyo mga sarili niyo. Tapos tanungin niyo mga sarili niyo kung makakasakit ba kayo ng kapwa TAO bago niyo bitawan ang isang panghuhusga or ang isang salita. Piliin niyong matuto. Piliin niyong magpakatao. Ok? Ok!” Christian said.
He even screenshot this conversation and shared it on Twitter with a caption:”Kaya may mga taong natatakot sumuporta at manindigan sa kung ano ang tingin nilang tama, dahil may mga taong ganito. Sorry for the word, pero mga nalason ito ng maling nakaugalian. Pero hindi dahil nalason, salot na. Pwede pang gamutin. Dapat maging bukas lang matuto,” the actor wrote on Twitter.

His post trended online and he was lauded for his powerful words in defense of the LGBTQIA+ community.
The recently held Pride Parade at Marikina Sports Center accumulated over 70,000 participants, a record-breaking number, wielding rainbow flags and umbrellas amid the pouring rain. Following this year’s theme, #ResistTogether, the LGBTQIA+ community and their allies marched in the streets not just to celebrate but also to fight against the injustices the community continues to face.
Aside from Christian, Iza Calzado, Nadine Lustre, Janine Gutierrez, and photographer BJ Pascual were also among those who marched in the rain. Also spotted were couples Angie and Joey Mead King, and Mari Jasmine and director Samantha Lee.
