- Angel Locsin has reacted to ABS-CBN Films’ announcement of the new ‘Darna’
- Angel Locsin first donned the ‘Darna’ costume in 2005 in GMA Network

ABS-CBN Films’ managing director Olivia Lamasan has announced this afternoon that Jane de Leon has been chosen as the new ‘Darna.’
“We have found a new Darna and she is none other than Jane de Leon!”
Among the almost 300 celebrities who auditioned for the most coveted role, the ABS-CBN management said Jane was “unanimously chosen” in light of Liza Soberano’s injury-related departure from the film project earlier this year.
Angel Locsin, who first portrayed ‘Darna’ on GMA Network in a 2005 TV series, was introduced in 2014 as Star Cinema’s Darna. In 2017, she announced her departure from ‘Darna’ project, citing spine injury.
On Star Cinema AdProm Head Mico del Rosario’s Instagram post on the new Darna, Angel commented, “Congratulations, Jane de Leon :)”
Jane immediately replied, “Maraming Salamat po Ate @therealangellocsin ❤️”

The young Kapamilya actress who appeared in several hit television series of ABS-CBN, such as La Luna Sangre and Halik, now joins the likes of Gina Pareño, Gina Alajar, Vilma Santos, Sharon Cuneta, Regine Velasquez, Angel Locsin, and Marian Rivera as the actresses who have played the superheroine.
