- Kris Bernal will be the antagonist of the series Hanggang sa Dulo ng Buhay Ko
- She usually plays the leading lady in her series
- Kris has not won any award or recognition as an actress in her 12 years in showbiz
Kris Bernal is now set to star the upcoming horror series Hanggang sa Dulo ng Buhay Ko as an antagonist to the leading characters of Megan Young and Rayver Cruz.
The actress was used to take on leading roles but for now, she will act as a vengeful ghost mistress that will ruin the lives of her ex-boyfriend Matteo played by Rayver and his new love Yvie portrayed by Megan.
Among the series which she played as a leading lady were Dapat Ka Bang Mahalin (2009), All My Life (2009), The Last Prince (2010), Koreana (2010-2011), Time of My Life (2011), Hiram Na Puso (2012), Coffee Prince (2012), Prinsesa Ng Buhay Ko (2013-2014), Hiram Na Alaala (2014-2015), Little Nanay (2015), Impostora (2017-2018), and Asawa Ko, Karibal Ko (2018-2019).
“Noong una, of course, kinuwestiyon ko kung gaano kalalim, kalawak, at kabigat yung character,” Kris said in a presscon held on July 8, Monday, at Studio 4 of GMA Network Center. “Tinanong ko rin na, ‘Ako ba ay kontrabida na ngayon, support na lang ba ako ngayon?’ Kasi siyempre, if kasama natin si Megan Young, siyempre Megan Young ang magiging bida, hindi ako.”
As told to her by GMA management, she will likely be the antagonist but not a supporting character.
“In-explain nila sa akin yung character. Hindi ako yung bida, of course si Megan Young ang bida pero… Sa akin kasi nagsimula, e, parang ako yung backbone ng story, e. Kaya magkakaroon ng istorya, dahil dun sa istorya ko. So, yun. Hindi naman support pero siguro mas angat lang siguro yung character ni Megan or all throughout of course, yung kuwento na nila yung umiikot, na nananakot ako.”
Will she play the ‘Bida-kontrabida’ role on the show?
“Siguro, parang ganun.”
It was remembered that Kris took this kind of role when she led the series Impostora, wherein she played the dual role of good girl Nimfa and bad girl Rosette.
“Pero ngayon kasi, yung pagiging kontrabida ko kay Megan, as moomoo, hindi yung sampalan…”
The actress also denied that she felt insecure working with Megan Young who was crowned as Miss World 2013.
“Wala namang insecurities. Siyempre, malaking bagay na makakaeksena ko siya, di ba? Pero na-pressure din ako, kasi kailangang umangat din yung character ko. I mean, of course, Megan is Megan. And dahil si Megan, yung character niya talaga yung kakaawaan. Mahu-hook yung mga tao, kumbaga, ki-cling sila dun sa character ni Megan. Kasi, siya yung kawawa. So, kailangang iangat ko yung character ko, na maintindihan nila kung bakit So ganun, medyo pressured din ako. Kasi kiyempre, kailangang pantayan ko yung ganung ano,” she stated.
Other cast members include Kim Domingo, Boots Anson-Roa, Sharmaine Arnaiz, Francine Prieto, and Beverly Salviejo with the direction of Jorron Lee Monroy.
The series premieres July 22, Monday on GMA Network’s Afternoon Prime.
Kris has been a Kapuso actress for more than 12 years after she won in the fourth season of StarStruck.
However, the actress recently became more vocal about her frustrations over having no recognition or awards as an actress.
She said that from now on, she’ll choose roles that will help her aim for an award as an actress and work even harder.
Kris starred in the socio-political action thriller movie KontrAdiksyon with Jake Cuenca which premiered last June 26. It was the comeback movie of film outfit Bell Films.
