Singer-songwriter Juris Fernandez, who is known for her popular rendition of “Especially for you” as well as original tracks like “Sa Kanya,” “A Little Bit,” and “Kailan,” has become the latest celebrity to make a comment about the Idol Philippines judges.
In an exclusive interview of Bulletin Entertainment, Juris shared first that singing wasn’t really a part of her plans, she just went “with the flow.”
“I don’t have self-imposed rules that ‘Hey I should be singing like this, more chill, more hugot and all,”’ she explained. “I just sing the way I know how. I guess this is my forte.”
When asked about mentoring younger singers since a lot of people see her as qualified to do so, Juris humbly said that she hasn’t had the opportunity to mentor aspiring singers.
“I’d been around for many years but I didn’t have the opportunity to do that. I don’t know, let’s see.”
In line with this, the question about Idol Philippines judges came up, in particular, the incident where Regine Velasquez called out an idol aspirant for having the same sound as fellow judge Moira Dela Torre.
“It’s not something new eh. There are times fans send me videos of them having the same sound as me. I don’t see any problem with that,” Juris commented.
If she would be a mentor, she would help the singer find his or her own singing style in singing.
“We all know people are inclined to copy or emulate what is popular. Of course, eventually I would wish for a person to look for her own style—that’s where a mentor comes in.”
Juris even said that the Idol Philippines judges know what they’re doing as mentors.
“You know, I believe that the people, the team behind that show know what they’re doing. There are young artists who are comfortable to work with young mentors. It’s also about emotional support eh.”
Three of the Idol Philippines judges—namely Moira Dela Torre, James Reid, and Vice Ganda—have been the target of bashers who do not agree with how they have been selecting the contestants on the show.
