- Sarah Geronimo and Kathryn Bernardo tied for Best Actress of the Year
- Kathryn considers her award as validation that dedication pays off
- Ogie Alcasid won as Best Actor of the Year for the movie ‘Kuya Wes’
The Philippine Movie Press Club’s (PMPC) Star Awards is an award-giving body that recognizes local outstanding films every year. This started in 1985 and is headed by entertainment writers.
Last Sunday, three Kapamilya artists received top acting honors.
Singer-songwriter Ogie Alcasid never imagined himself winning a Best Actor Award after PMPC recognized his performance in the self-produced movie ‘Kuya Wes’ which premiered during the 14th Cinemalaya Film Festival.
In his acceptance speech, he took the opportunity to thank his three children and his wife Regine Velasquez-Alcasid for believing and supporting him.
“Leila, Sarah, and Nate, thank you for the inspiration. To my beautiful wife for believing in me more than I believe in myself, because of that I started believing in myself,” Ogie said.
“God! Amazing ka talaga, this means so much to me. All the glory goes to You, our Father,” he continued.
In a separate interview, Ogie mentioned that definitel, this is not the last movie he will produce.
Aside from Ogie, two other kapamilyas were also big winners.
Kathryn Bernardo was recognized as Best Actress of the Year for her performance as George in ‘The Hows of Us.’
She shared the award with Sarah Geronimo who won for her performance in the film ‘Miss Granny.’
Kathryn considered her Best Actress Award as validation that true dedication really does pay off.
“Ang dami kong whys last year before we shot The Hows of Us. And then ‘yung pinakabaon na natutunan ko siguro while making this film and ‘yung [itinuro] sa akin ng universe, is that life is not perfect. It doesn’t always go the way we want it to be. Itong award na ito, this is a validation that true dedication really does pay off,” she said.
Though she learned it the hard way, encountering trials never stop her from reaching her lifelong dreams.
“Napatunayan din nito na it’s okay not to be okay sometimes. It’s okay to get tired in the process. It’s okay to fail even kasi lahat iyan, part ng journey natin. What’s important is you stand up and you try again until you make that dream a reality,” she said.
Aside from her family, her boyfriend Daniel Padilla, and everyone who continues to believe in her, she dedicated her award to all her fellow dreamers.
