- Martin del Rosario revealed his thoughts about ABS-CBN’s franchise renewal issue
- He might not be able to visit his former network to promote his upcoming movie The Panti Sisters
- His current movie Because I Love You was premiered on June 26
Former ABS-CBN actor Martin del Rosario revealed his thoughts about the news of Congress freezing ABS-CBN’s franchise renewal bill. In an interview, the actor said he was saddened by the news which came out two weeks ago.
“Siyempre, nakakalungkot na maraming mawawalan din ng trabaho kung mangyayari man ‘yan,” the Kapuso actor shared with PEP.ph during the mediacon of his movie Because I Love You last June 6 at Cafe 1771 Events Place, Ortigas Center.
“Pero I think naman, yung ABS-CBN, ginagawa naman nila yung best nila or kung anumang mga ano nila para mag-survive.
“So iyon, ako, feeling ko naman, kakayanin naman nila,” the actor said.
House Bill 4349, which seeks to renew the legislative franchise of broadcasting giant ABS-CBN Corp., was allegedly “frozen” by the House of Representatives. The franchise expires in nine months or on March 20, 2020.
Without a franchise renewal, the radio-television network might shut down.

The Committee on Legislative Franchises, where House Bill 4349 bill had been pending since November 2016, did not submit a report on it before the outgoing 17th Congress adjourned its third and last regular session.
This means that the renewal measure would have to be re-filed in the 18th Congress, which convenes on July 22. However, President Rodrigo Duterte has said on many occasions that he will oppose ABS-CBN’s franchise renewal due to his complaints about the network.
Martin, who spent six years as a talent of ABS-CBN under Star Magic, signed an exclusive contract with GMA Network on September 2, 2014. Prior to this, he was already seen in most of GMA Network shows like Rhodora X and Magpakailanman.

His upcoming film The Panti Sisters with Christian Bables and Paolo Ballesteros will be under Black Sheep, an ABS-CBN subsidiary. However, Martin said he might not be able to set foot in ABS-CBN again to promote the film.
“Hindi po yata ako papayagan dahil nasa contract. So, ayun,” he answered.
Then he referred Christian and Paolo as the ones who can promote the film at ABS-CBN.
“Si Christian… si Christian and si Paolo,” Martin said.
“Si Paolo yata, puwede. Ako lang yata ang hindi puwede. Pero si Christian at si Paolo, puwede.
“’Tapos, ako siguro, sa GMA na shows,” he added.
The actor also shared that he is a loveless man right now.
“Wala, wala. Wala pa rin. Masaya naman akong single,” he said.
His movie with David Licauco and Shaira Diaz titled Because I Love You was premiered on June 26 in cinemas nationwide. It was directed by Joel Lamangan, produced by ALV Films in cooperation with Garahe Films, and distributed by Regal Films.
