There were rumors that the reason the first teleserye of Aldub, Destined to be Yours ended last May 2017 was to make way for their upcoming movie. In spite of the petition from fans for the network to extend the show, it ended soon enough.
Destined to Be Yours only got mediocre ratings compared to their rival show My Dear Heart. Their consultant Suzette Doctolero admitted that the show’s first three weeks were a flop and she was bashed for her admission.
After the said teleserye, it became a big challenge for Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza to prove they were still bankable. Considering the circumstances, will there be a chance a third Aldub movie?
The Aldub tandem has already done two films as the headliners: My Bebe Love #KiligPaMore (2015) and Imagine You and Me (2016). They were also part of the ensemble cast of Enteng Kabisote 10 and the Abangers (2016).
According to Pambansang Bae Alden, the movie will still push through. During a press conference on August 30, 2018, Alden shared that he had a lot on his plate and he hoped to make another movie soon. “Sa ngayon po, wala pa po kasi my hands are quite full po because of the concert and other commitments. Pero next year po… Kausap ko na po ‘yung management, may mga concept na po. Concept pa lang, hindi pa final. Hopefully po, next year makagawa ko ulit.”
Alden considers his long-delayed movie with Maine as one movie option that he hopes pushes through. “Isa po ‘yun, isang option po ‘yun na sana matuloy din po next year and meron din pong other concepts na medyo out of the box po, medyo dark. Dark projects po.”
He added, “Andoon po ‘yung ano ko, eh… Like nung ginawa ko ‘yung The Road, hindi ko po makakalimutan ‘yun hanggang ngayon. Sobrang enjoy po ako doing genres like that kasi unexplored po siya, eh. Kumbaga lagi po ako doon sa mabait na side. Doon naman tayo sa medyo edgy, medyo dark.”
Almost one year later, the third Aldub movie is no closer to being made.
It is believed that it will no longer push through because members of Official AlDub Trendsetter (OAT) fan group released their last hashtag for the love team, together with a statement thanking the fans for their support since Day 1. “Maraming salamat sa inyo @ofctrendsetter kita kits tayo ulit. Andito lang ako. #ALDUBxADNThankYou,” Alden tweeted his thanks to the group.
Today, Maine plays the daughter of comedian-host Vic Sotto in the sitcom Daddy’s Gurl. She will also be paired up with Carlo Aquino for their film under Black Sheep titled Isa Pa With Feelings. For his part, Alden paired up with the ABS-CBN star Kathryn Bernardo for their Star Cinema film Hello, Love, Goodbye.
