Veteran actor Eddie Garcia, who just turned 90, was recently rushed to the hospital and is currently under critical observation after collapsing on Saturday, June 8 while filming the upcoming teleserye Rosang Agimat.
Dr. Enrique Lagman, Garcia’s family doctor, said the actor did not suffer a heart attack as earlier reported and revealed that the actor instead incurred a neck fracture and is now in a “deep sleep” when he tripped while shooting the TV series.
GMA Network earlier on Sunday said it was reviewing a viral video of the veteran actor while shooting for the upcoming television series for the media network. The network said it was saddened upon knowing the incident and is praying for the recovery of Garcia.
“The video of Mr. Eddie Garcia faltering in his steps & eventually collapsing has reached GMA. We are seriously reviewing the said video as well as other videos of the same scene which our cameras also took, before we make any conclusions on what really transpired,”it stated.
“We will wait for the family or their doctor to issue a formal update on his condition. Meanwhile, we continue to pray for his quick recovery” the network said.
Garcia was transferred to Makati Medical Center from Mary Johnston Hospital in Tondo.
“Ang latest na nabalitaan namin, madaling araw na raw kahapon na ito nakalabas ng Mary Johnston Hospital at dinala siya ng Makati Medical Center. Ang unang balita ay dadalhin siya ng St. Luke’s QC pero sa Makati Med na siya itinuloy,” entertainment reporter Gorgy Rula stated in a Philippine Star article.
With this unfortunate situation, celebrities led by Sharon Cuneta, Vice Ganda, and Ogie Alcasid have asked for prayers for the fast recovery of the actor.
Production of the upcoming action series was reportedly discontinued due to the condition of Garcia, who plays a major role.
Meanwhile, GMA Network has not yet released any announcement about the upcoming series.
“Hindi pa alam kung ano ang plano ngayon ng GMA 7 dahil ang pagkakaalam ko, naka-schedule na sana kung kailan sisimulan ang pag-ere nitong Rosang Agimat dahil may mga drama series na malapit nang matapos,” Gorgy Rula of the Philippine Star was quoted in this statement.
