James Reid has decided to withdraw from the highly-anticipated project ‘Pedro Penduko’ movie due to a spinal injury. The action-fantasy film ‘Pedro Penduko: The Legend Begins’ is being produced by Viva Films and Epik Studios.
His management said that the rigid requirements of the role which included intensive training and major stunts would affect his therapy and treatment.
Pedro Penduko director Treb Monteras expressed his regrets over James’s withdrawal from the movie.
“Nag-rewrite po kasi kami ng script na bagay talaga kay James,” Monteras said during an interview of PEP.ph last Saturday.
“So all set na talaga kami to shoot with James. Kaya nakakahinayang, kasi maganda yung script. Matagal ginawa” he added.
However, Monteras understands James’ decision and hopes to work with him on another project.
“Hopefully po matuloy kami ni James sa ibang project. May iniisip din po kasi akong gawin with him na iba,” Monteras said.
There has been no replacement yet for the Pedro Penduko role.
“Mahihirapan kaming makahanap ng kapalit. Pero matutuloy po iyan,” Monteras concluded.
It has been almost two years since it was announced that James would be taking on the role of the Pinoy hero. VIVA issued a statement about James withdrawing from the project.
“James has spinal injuries and the film Pedro Penduko involves intensive training and major stunts. His regular therapy and treatment prohibit him to train hard or perform for the rigid requirements,” VIVA stated.
In their statement, VIVA expressed their appreciation for the actor’s dedication and commitment to the film.
“James has spent over a year training and getting ready for this film and Viva truly appreciates his dedication and commitment to this project. Viva respects James’ decision and wishes him a speedy recovery,” the statement continued.
But it seems JaDine fans will be happy as James will star alongside his real-life girlfriend Nadine Lustre in the remake of hit 2011 Korean film Spellbound (My Girlfriend Can See Ghosts), which starred Son Ye-jin and Lee Min-ki.
