‘Banal’ is a horror movie under APT Entertainment starring Bianca Umali, Miguel Tanfelix, Andrea Brillantes, Taki Saito, and Kim Last. It tells the story of a group of friends who are trapped as they go hiking in a haunted forest.
The movie premiered on May 29 along with local movies ‘Quezon’s Game’ and ‘Finding You.’ ‘Banal’ movie is the first big screen project of the BiGuel love team which started in 2014.
Sadly, ‘Banal’ failed to spark the interests of the public did not fare well in the cinemas. The same thing goes for the movie ‘Finding You’ which has already been pulled out of some cinemas.
However, the historical film ‘Quezon’s Game’ managed to rake in audiences and was lauded for its impressive story. Raymond Bagatsing who played Pres. Manuel L. Quezon was praised for his performance.

Some highly anticipated Hollywood movies like ‘John Wick 3′ and ‘Godzilla: King of the Monsters’ also reigned in Philippine cinemas and which affected the local films.
For the past few months, the rate of local movie failures has been increasing and has become a cause of alarm for some Filipino filmmakers, including film director Erik Matti.
According to Matti, the Philippine movie industry is in a “dire situation” as local movies are often beaten by Hollywood offerings. Video streaming has also been pinpointed as a reason for the drop in cinema audiences.
