The Philippine entertainment industry mourned on Thursday (June 201) the passing of Eddie Garcia, a screen icon and director whose career spanned for seven decades. Celebrities and friends of Garcia took to social media to remember and pay tribute to the veteran actor.
Garcia, who died aged 90, had been filming a scene in a GMA Network series on June 8 when he appeared to trip, resulting in a cervical fracture.
The veteran actor was last seen in ABS-CBN’s coverage of 35th Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC) Star Awards for Movies where he received the “Natatanging Bituin ng Siglo” award for his contributions to the local movie industry held earlier this month.
ABS-CBN, his home for seven years, mourned the death of Eddie Garcia, considered by many as one of the greatest actors in the history of Philippine showbiz.
He was last seen on ABS-CBN as part of the hit primetime serye, ‘FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.’ He played a villain to Coco Martin’s lead character.

Ang ating Tito Eddie, na may tunay na pangalang Eduardo Verchez Garcia, ay kilala bilang isa sa mga pinaka-premyadong aktor at direktor sa Philippine television and cinema.
Isa naming karangalan na si Tito Eddie ay naging bahagi ng aming pamilya. Siya ay hinangaan sa kanyang katangi-tanging pagganap sa mga TV show tulad ng “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano,” Wansapanataym,” “Nathaniel,” “Give Love on Christmas: The Gift Giver,” “Sana Bukas Pa Ang Kahapon,” “Honesto,” “Juan dela Cruz,” at “Maalaala Mo Kaya.”
Nagmarka rin ang kanyang pagganap sa mga pelikula ng ABS-CBN katulad ng “Bwakaw,” “Ang Panday,” “Praybeyt Benjamin,” at iba pa. Si Tito Eddie lang ang tanging indibidwal na hinirang sa tatlong kategorya ng Hall of Fame sa FAMAS: Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, at Best Director.
