On June 1, 2019, ABS-CBN launched its new digital TV dongle called ABS-CBN TVplus Go which is the mobile version of its best-selling digital television product, ABS-CBN TVplus.
This development is still in line with the preparation for the country’s switch to digital TV by the year 2023.
Its earlier innovation made the company the country’s pioneer in digital terrestrial television when it was launched in 2015. It has already sold over 7 million units as of the end of 2018.
On the other hand, GMA Network, who first promised to produce dongles instead of set-top boxes in 2015, has been experiencing delays in the launch of their Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) devices for over three years, putting them behind rival ABS-CBN Corp.
GMA Network’s digital TV rollout only started to pick up last year and GMA Network Inc. President and Chief Executive Felipe L. Gozon, at the time, noted that they were concerned about still-uncertain financial prospects in the business.
Finally, GMA Network, Inc. said it will be launching a digital terrestrial television (DTT) device called “MyGMA Go” this year, which will allow users to stream its free-to-air shows through mobile phones.
During the company’s annual stockholders’ meeting on Wednesday, Gozon said the company is investing “over a billion pesos” to complete the second phase of its digitization project.
“Our digital device, which will have features that our competitors do not have, will be finally launched some time in the second half of this year,” Gozon revealed.
According to the latest data from ratings service provider Nielsen TV Audience Measurement, GMA Network posted 36.6 percent average total audience share in Urban Luzon, outscoring ABS-CBN’s 31.1 percent in April (with April 21 to 30 based on overnight data).
Unfortunately, the network failed to give the data from Visayas, Mindanao, Rural Luzon, and the whole Philippines, releasing just a portion of the nationwide ratings, possibly meaning that GMA Network’s shows only dominated in Urban Luzon.
Meanwhile, GMA Network urges Mega Manila viewers to rescan their digital TV boxes immediately to find GMA Network and GMA News TV much faster when channel surfing.
To rescan, just follow these simple steps:
•Press “Menu” and go to “Settings”
•Under “Installation”, press “Factory Default” and enter the password on the dialogue box (for example: 0-0-0-0)

•Choose “Auto Search” or “Auto Scan” then press “OK”
•Wait for the auto scan to be completed or until “Search Completed” appears on the screen then press “OK” or “Exit”
•Search for GMA and GMA News TV using the up and down buttons of the remote control
