“Hindi nila ako sineryoso“- these were the words of the Kapamilya actress Julia Barretto pertaining to her audition for the vacated role of Darna.
During the media conference held at ABS-CBN compound in Quezon City yesterday, May 2, Barretto revealed that she already auditioned for the role of Darna. However, according to her the producers didn’t take her seriously.
“Sabi ko nga, ‘Maghuhubad na po ba ako? Kasi ready na po ako.’ So umiikot-ikot ako doon. Gumaganun-ganun. Wala, tinawan lang nila ako.
“Baka ayaw nila,” she added that gave the crowd a hard laugh.
It was in April 4 when ABS-CBN officially released a statement regarding Liza Soberano‘s withdrawal from the iconic role. Different female artists were tapped to try out for the role prior to Star Cinema opening a nationwide search for the next woman to wear the costume of Filipina superheroine.
Names like Nadine Lustre, Kathryn Bernardo, Maja Salvador, and Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach were fielded in to try the role.
The young actress is humble enough to audition even though she is aware of the criticisms that would go her way. Despite what happened to her audition, she took the situation lightly and answered all the questions thrown at her in a funny and witty way.
Her mature thinking is really something that adds color to her personality.
Watch short clips of hers making rounds on social media that earned different reactions from the Netizens.

Some believed that she deserve the role because she has what it takes and surely, she can give justice to the iconic character.
“Ok na ok.lng sakin cya as Darna…dahil sya na bet ko noon sa mga kabataan… Sporty din nmn cya.yes..and legit moviestar na cyà kumikita nmn movies nya. And ganyang mga mukha tlaga dapat sa tv or movies.”
“Yeeees!! I support this! She’s got the built for it and she can actually act and play the part well.”
“I’m not her fan but pwede din naman sis I also like her curves but if she is to portray narda she has to be believable at being an underdog yung fierceness as darna meron na sya.”
Some even joked that she only had to use a push-up bra or something that will enhance her bust since has flat-chest, to which the young actress is proud of. She doesn’t entertain body shaming to drag her down.
“Go juls. Ang sexy ni julia grabe sa behind at balakang. Yong chest nman. Pwde na idaan sa push up bra”
The media conference was held for the movie titled Between Maybes that will be out in cinemas on May 15. She will be with Gerald Anderson under the direction of Jason Paul Laxamana.
During the conference, she admitted that she can relate to her character of Hazel Ilagan, an actress who chose to escape from her troubled career and controlled life by going to Japan.

“Timely dumating si Hazel sa buhay ko. We were going through the exact same thing. “Napaaga lang talaga yung escape ko. Pero pareho kami ng experience,” Barretto shared.
Barretto explained that her reason for her escape is not exactly the same with Hazel. But, the need to breathe, the need for clarity, and the need to find one’s self were the things she could relate to.
“Salamat naman. Sana matanggap si Julia para lahat ng Darna ay maganda. Wag yung puro hype lang. Yes, I’m talking about N. Kasi sobrang hype lang kasi siya. Wala naman dating. Lagi pinu-push ng mga TARDS.”
