On Thursday, May 16, the 40 candidates for this year’s Binibining Pilipinas beauty pageant paid a courtesy visit to the head office of leading telecommunications and digital services provider Philippine Long Distance Telephone, Inc. (PLDT) to kick off activities leading to the coronation night on June 9 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
During the said occasion, there were six girls who were interviewed by selected digital media and the three of them shared their thoughts about the importance of telecommunications [particularly PLDT] in their bid for a title in the pageant.
The first three candidates who shared their thoughts were Bea Patricia Magtanong, Julia Saubier and Samantha Ashley Lo who represent Bataan, Daraga-Albay and Cebu City, respectively.
Lo, the 26-year-old Cebuana registered nurse says, “We’re always online saying, ‘vote, like share.’ Help these girls reach the best, highest numbers and there’ll be a winner announced. PLDT connects everyone not only nationally but globally–for our friends and families abroad.”
While one of the tallest candidates, the 24-year-old Saubier sees it as, “Because we are like the world’s biggest digital consumers, we spend at least four hours a day on our phones, there’s real opportunity there.”
And the 24-year-old graduate from UP-Diliman and a recent BAR passer shares, “It’s also an opportunity for the Filipino community, all around the world to come together ‘coz I have the pleasure of talking to pageant fans a bit older and they’re in the United States, they’re in Dubai, they’re in Australia–things like that. They’re telling me a few years back they did not have that experience of seeing the girls every single day, seeing their progress and now they do.”
Since 2014, PLDT through its consumer business group PLDT Home has supported the various causes and events of Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc. (BPCI), particularly the annual pageant.
