It was a wonderful and memorable evening for ‘It’s Showtime’ host Mariel Padilla and her husband Robin Padilla, during the thanksgiving dinner of President Rodrigo Duterte, which was held at Malacañang Palace last May 7, 2019
It was hosted by Honeylet Avanceña along with President Duterte, themselves. The thanksgiving dinner was for celebrity supporters who supported the president in his candidacy before, and the thanksgiving banquet was filled with celebrities.
Aside from Mariel and Robin Padilla, also present during the event were celebrities Vivian Velez, Chad Borja, John Lloyd Cruz, Ruffa Gutierrez, Aiko Melendez, Alex Gonzaga, Phillip Salvador, Ice Seguerra, Toni Gonzaga, Paul Soriano, Bayani Agbayani, Joseph Marco, Dulce, Gretchen Ho, Ai-Ai delas Alas, Vhong Navarro, Ryan Bang, Rodjun Cruz, Ynez Veneracion, Jimmy Bondoc, Luke Mejares, Arnell Ignacio, , Liza Diño, Richard Gomez, & Annabelle Rama.
On the Instagram post of Mariel Padilla @marieltpadilla, she shared a photo of her with President Duterte with his husband. Robin Padilla and the president’s wife, Honeylet Avancena, shared a lengthy caption of what she had experienced on that wonderful evening.
“A memorable evening for me, courtesy of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and First Lady Honeylet. PRRD is not the first President that I campaigned for but he is the first President to invite me to the palace. The room was filled with celebrities who supported him both silently and openly.”
The President also thanked them for the support that they have given, immediately upon arriving.

“When the President arrived, he sat down and immediately said “Mag tatlong taon na akong presidente ngayon lang ako makapagpasalamat sa inyo.” Madam Honeylet flew in from Davao just to be at the thanksgiving dinner and she flies back to Davao the next day, during her introduction speech, she mentioned that they are not really fond of hosting parties… so i knew it was a special night! “
Mariel also mentioned that the dinner was meant to be special for this event, since President Duterte had told them that the food in the palace was simple but he requested that he wants it to be special.
“On the menu was salad, mushroom soup, fillet mignon and strawberry cheesecake. The menu was a special request made by the President himself “sabi ko ibahin naman ang pagkain. Kasi ang pagkain talaga dito isang ulam, kanin at sabaw. Sabi ko gawin espesyal.”
She even mentioned that Robin’s loyalty to the president was not wasted since it was really reciprocated with the kindness of the President.
“Yung loyalty ni Robin kay President ay hindi (na)sayang because it was reciprocated with kindness. Truly a memorable evening!!! Big big thanks to senatorial candidate Bong Go for making the evening possible.👊🏼”
Mariel even added her “almost” wardrobe mishap since she wasn’t aware of the protocol in Malacañang Palace when it comes to dress code
“(side kwento I didn’t know hindi pala pwede naka sleeveless… i had to cover my beautiful Carolina Herrera dress hehe 😉 buti na lang may blazer sa car)”

Because of the post, the former queen of all media, Kris Aquino commented on how she feels guilty of not inviting Mariel on a thanksgiving celebration before.
“@krisaquino- It’s those human gestures of saying THANK YOU that matter… Nahiya ako that hindi ka na invite for a proper thank you celebration (I am keeping my fingers crossed at some point you did receive flowers?),”
She even talked about a similar story of her also using skin-baring outfits in such events.
“On a side note – may funny kwento ako – there was a lunch for an ASEAN head of state – and invitation said business attire. Napagalitan ako because I think I wore a skin baring outfit – nasabihan ako na, didn’t you read na business attire. So don’t sweat it – I broke that sleeveless rule countless times- nag backless, nag halter, nag plunging.”
which Mariel replied that, she didn’t receive any flowers and it was okay that she wasn’t invited before.
“@krisaquino hi ate!!! No I didn’t receive flowers maybe because i was married na hehehe but my friendship with you is more than enough hehehe bawal pala skin baring.”
“@marieltpadilla i apologize na kinulang sa personal touch.”
Which Mariel had clarified once again, that it was really okay.
“@krisaquino no need to apologize ate i was not expecting anything personal in exchange i willingly did it from my heart.”
The couple, Mariel and Robin Padilla, is an avid supporter of President Rodrigo Duterte, since then.
