- ‘Idol Philippines’ judge James Reid comment on why he rejected reggae artist Luke Baylon
- The three NOs from the judges received mixed reactions from the viewers
- James Reid aired his side on his Twitter account
ABS-CBN’s ‘Idol Philippines’ has been going full steam ahead in looking for the next Idol. But, did it make a mistake with its latest episode? Recently, the rejection of Idol aspirant Luke Baylon has been trending online.
Netizens were shocked and dismayed with the judges’ decision to say “no” to the idol aspirant (with only Regine Velasquez giving Luke a “yes”), leading them to bash the show and its judges.
One of the most bashed judges was James Reid, with singer-songwriter JK Labajo throwing shade on the former on his Twitter account. James broke his silence and responded to criticisms about his decision.
On his Twitter account, James Reid explained his side on the rejection, saying he believes that Luke Baylon is a good singer but that Idol Philippines is looking for a total package.
“Like I said, Luke Baylon is a good singer but we’re looking for the total package. Wait till you see the 12 finalists. You’ll see why I said he wasn’t ready.”

The actor even wished the Idol aspirant success in his music career and complimented his rendition of the song he sang at the audition.
“For now, I wish Luke all the success is his music career. That rendition of If I Ain’t Got You was sick 🔥”
In another tweet, James said he feels really bad and added how hard it was for him to crush someone’s dream. He also said that this is what the judges need to do: to fulfill their role in choosing the right auditionee.
“You have no idea how hard it is to crush peoples dreams right in front of them. That’s the burden we carry as judges to try and give one special person a chance of a lifetime. Just wait. The auditions isn’t even the hardest part. #IdolPhilippines”

A lot of fans felt James’ was sincere in taking the moment to explain his reason for rejecting the aspirant.
It’s nice that you took a moment to explain, but you shouldn’t have. The judges have their own criteria and people should understand that, especially those who are in no way involved with the music industry and are just mere spectators. Keep doing what you do. Keeping it real. ✌🏼

James you didn't have to explain yourself but thank you for doing so eloquently.
You're doing a damn good job. Your judgement is fair and you are very clear on your standards. Also your comments to the contestants are constructive & can be used to better their craft. Kudos!
