- GMA Network announced its digital transmission device will be released this year
- GMA Network’s DTT (Digital Terrestrial Television) has features competitors don’t have
- In four years, ABS-CBN has sold 7 million TV Plus units
GMA Network recently announced that their digital transmission device is set to be released in the second half of the year. The device was originally set to be released in June 2018, but due to some issues, the release was delayed for a year.
During the company’s annual stockholders meeting, GMA Network Chairman and CEO Felipe Gozon mentioned in his speech, “Our digital device, which will have features that our competitors do not have, will be finally launched sometime in the second half of this year.”
Earlier this year in January, GMA Chairman Gozon also announced GMA Network’s partnership with PLDT.
“Binigay na namin exclusive sa PLDT. May contract na kami, ‘yung details nalang ina-iron out, sila mayroong facility eh.”
According to Gozon, the device enables analog TV sets to receive digital transmissions like similar devices already out in the market.
“With the other features, I am hoping na madaling mabenta. Mas mura eh. But sa smartphone muna.”
In comparison, ABS-CBN’s own DTT device, ABS-CBN TV Plus, has already sold seven million units in the four years since it was released. The rapid transition of ABS-CBN from analog to digital terrestrial television has helped changed the viewing experience Filipinos.
The reported price of GMA Network’s digital device is 500 pesos. The network has invested over P1 billion to complete the second phase of its digitization project.
