Dingdong Dantes is set to play the male lead role “Big Boss” for the Filipino adaptation of ‘Descendants of the Sun,’ that was originally played by Korean actor Song Joong-Ki in the original version.
The Korean series ‘Descendants of the Sun’ tells the love story between Captain Yoo Shi Jin (Song Joong-ki), Korean Special Forces, and Doctor Kang Mo Yeon (Song Hye-kyo), surgeon at Haesung Hospital.
The show would be part of GMA Network’s 2019 lineup.
Rocco Nacino, Jasmine Curtis-Smith and Jennylyn Mercado will be joining him on the main cast, although the other cast members and airing date have yet to be announced, the actor said that it will definitely have a Pinoy touch.
“Puwede natin bigyan ng Pinoy flavor talaga. Tingin ko, kung bakit pumapatok ‘yung mga shows natin sa kanila is [because it’s] very regional ‘yung mga kuwento, nakaka-relate tayong mga Pinoy. Kumbaga parang pareho ang pinagdadaanan natin, tungkol sa pag-ibig, tungkol sa mga pinaglalaban mo — and much more, kung gawin natin in Philippine context,” Dingdong said in an interview during his GMA Network contract signing press conference.
“Definitely, iisipan natin na Philippine context lahat so from there, nandun na ‘yung mga desisyon kung saan ishu-shoot, anong klaseng uniporme, anong klaseng badge of service,” he added.
For now, he wants to take a break and help Marian take care of their second child, Sixto.
“Humihingi ako ng konting break kasi nga wala pang helper, kasi talagang si Marian talaga lahat, mabuti nandiyan ‘yung aming biyenan, lahat tumutulong,” Dingdong said.
