- Aiko Melendez leaves ABS-CBN after 9 years
- Melendez expressed her gratitude to ABS-CBN recently, which has been her home for almost a decade
- She also said she left ABS-CBN with good relations with her bosses, but added what is important for her as a single mom is to have work
After her nine-year stay at ABS-CBN, politician-actress Aiko Melendez bid farewell to the network to become a Kapuso. On May 22, she took to Instagram and expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the Kapamilya network.
“Nagpapasalamat po ako sa [channel] 2 sa 9 years na [opportunity] na binigay nyo sa akin na makapag work dahil dito ako nag grow bilang isang actress at hindi ko mararating kung ano ako ngayon kundi dahil sa kanila,” wrote Melendez via Instagram on May 22.
In her message, Melendez also expressed her gratitude to GMA Network for the new blessing given to her. According to her, as a single mom, work is really important to her.
“Para sa akin po ang work ay napakahalaga bilang isang single mom. Kaya nagpapasalamat ako sa bagong blessing na binigay ng GMA 7 sa akin,” Melendez said.
She also said that she is looking forward to her new journey at GMA Network.
“For now, as I embark another journey in my career, I’m looking forward to be playing a Big Part in this new afternoon soap of GMA 7 entitled PRIMA DONNAS. Salamat mga Kapamilya at Kapuso,” the actress said.
The veteran actress started as a child star under Regal Films becoming one of their ‘Regal Babies’ in the 1980s. Growing up, she was later paired up with actors like Richard Gomez, Jomari Yllana, and Aga Muhlach and became a multi-awarded actress for films like ‘May Minamahal’ in 1993 and ‘Sa ‘yo Lamang’ in 1995.
Some of her notable series at ABS-CBN included ‘Apoy sa Dagat’ in 2013, ‘The Story of Us’ in 2016, the top-rating ‘Wildflower,’ and LizQuen fantasy series ‘Bagani.’
The actress had also been on several GMA Network shows before her ABS-CBN stint, like ‘Mars Ravelo’s Basahang Ginto’ in 2010, the twentieth installment of Sine Novela.
For her comeback, Melendez was given the role of Kendra on GMA Network’s upcoming afternoon series ‘Prima Donnas’ to be top-billed by Kapuso tween actresses Jillian Ward, Sofia Pablo, and Althea Ablan and to be directed by Gina Alajar.
In her latest Instagram post, she happily shared that she will also be working with Wendell Ramos and Chanda Romero apart from Katrina Halili and Benjie Paras on the said series. Ramos also played the role of Jaguar in the ‘Wildflower’ series of ABS-CBN.
In a Twitter post, Marian Rivera welcomed Melendez for being an official Kapuso. In response, Melendez revealed her excitement to work with Marian in the future..
