Derek Ramsay’s transfer to the GMA Network took months before it officially materialized. Speculations about his transfer circulated since last year and it was in January that he was anticipated to have a contract signing, but then again, it was not done. It was only on April 03 that he finally made up his mind and made the signing with the Network.
Derek admitted that before making his final decision in becoming one of the Kapuso network talents, he first dreamt of becoming a professional golfer. He said that the network was really supportive when he came honestly about this and that they even gave him enough time to really think about his options, before making his final decision.
“No negativity. Walang siraan. It’s all positive conversations. Who I am, what the plans are, and I was honest with them siguro mga six or seven months, hindi ako nagtatrabaho dahil hinahabol ko ‘yung dream ko na maging professional golfer.
“So my mind, my heart, everything was focused on that and during those initial talks, they were patient enough to give me time to prepare mentally.”
Derek is well-known for his healthy and active lifestyle. He has been engaged in sports ever since he was young and ’til now, he still carries the agility and strength that a player must have. His top sports are basketball, soccer, Frisbee, and golf.

In an interview, Derek added that his delay was also due to making sure that before he joins GMA Network, he will be fully prepared, both physically and mentally, and emphasized that he is serious with his work.
“Kasi walang biro na babalik (ako) sa ganitong klase ng tarabaho where you have to give 100 percent kahit pagod ka everytime. Kailangan wala kang excuse, you have to be prepared. I wanted to be fully prepared na kapag pumasok na ko sa Kapuso, ibibigay ko ang best ko.”
Derek also stated that his parents were big contributors to his decision. They were the ones who pushed him to finally take the opportunity and now he is greatly thankful to them.
“Usually ako ang lumalapit sa parents ko to ask for advice. Heto, the advice came right away! ‘You should do it, Anak!’ sabi ng mommy ko. I learned from my mistakes in the past, always listen to your mom! Ha! Ha! Ha!

“Kidding aside I told them, ‘Really?’ Hindi nila alam ‘yun din ang iniisip ko! Siguro, konting pakipot lang sa kanila.
“Right now I’m so happy with my decision and I think I made the right decision!”
