ABS-CBN’s ‘Search for the Idol Philippines‘ debuted successfully as it topped the weekend programming last Sunday, April 21. It is an ABS-CBN iteration of the global singing competition. In fact, this is the third adaptation of the show in the country, after ‘Philipine Idol’ (TV5) in 2006, and ‘Pinoy Idol’ (GMA Network) in 2008.
Regine Velazquez-Alcasid, Moira Dela Torre, James Reid, and Vice Ganda serve as the judges of the show, and Billy Crawdford as host.
According to Kantar Media, the show’s pilot episode garnered a nationwide rating of 30.6%, which is more than twice the rating gathered by its rival program, ‘Studio 7,’ which only got 13.2%.

NUTAM data on April 21 also show ‘Idol Philippines’ leading with 12.7% versus ‘Studio 7’s’ 7.1%.
Not only that, Idol Philippines Youtube Channel hit 100K subscribers in less than 18 hours after the pilot episode.

The pilot telecast of ‘Idol Philippines’ showed the first batch of aspiring singers who auditioned for the show. Everyone had the talent but only 3 aspirants were given the gold tickets to move to the next round. They are: Juancho Gabriel, Angie Kristine, and Renwick Benito.
