- Liza Soberano had to turn down the Darna film project because of an injury.
- She was introduced as the millennial iteration of the komiks icon in May 2017.
- The film project was first announced in 2014 with Angel Locsin as the lead star.
After five years since the movie’s official announcement, the most awaited super heroine is again on a setback to beset the film project. On TV Patrol a while ago, Kapamilya star Liza Soberano tearfully announced her withdrawal from the said project.
“I still really, really wanted to do ‘Darna’ but I needed a perspective outside of ABS-CBN. They were also very hopeful that I would be able to do the project, but they understood my situation, and I’m glad that they are very supportive. They’re inspiring me, because they told me that I’m going to have other projects naman after.
“Akala ko if I backed out of ‘Darna,’ I wouldn’t have a job anymore. They told me na just because I’m not doing ‘Darna’ anymore, doesn’t mean I’m any less of an artist to them,’” she said.
Her finger injury, from an accident in Bagani last year didn’t heal. It hindered her stunt training for the movie. Six steel plates were inserted in her right index finger & will undergo another surgery next month.
“I really wanted to do ‘Darna.’ I invested so much time, so much effort. Physically, I felt like I was ready before the incident. I don’t want the project to suffer just because I don’t feel like I could give Darna the justice she deserves. Emotionally, that’s why I decided to withdraw from the project. I felt like hindi ako buo anymore to do ‘Darna.’
“I was scared na I wouldn’t look as good doing my stunts because of the way my finger looks, and I’m not sure na babalik siya sa dati, na I would be able to make a fist. Of course I wanted to give my management, my bosses, my best Darna that they could possibly have. But I kind of felt insecure about it na rin,” she stressed.
This December 2018, Liza Soberano’s Darna was announced as one of the pioneering productions to use the Hollywood-caliber sound stages at ABS-CBN’s Horizon IT Park in Bulacan.
