- JM de Guzman shares his sentiment on some wrong implementations of going against drug activities
- JM is not against the process of rehabilitation but is against the untimely deaths of numerous drug suspects during operations
- JM de Guzman thinks that drug dealers and users are also victims and can change for the better
Kapamilya star JM de Guzman thinks that there are other proper ways that the government can do to address the issue of drugs. Being a former user, he himself believes that some practices are just way too brutal and this should not be the case.
In the media conference of his upcoming movie ‘Last Fool Show,’ he was asked about his take on PDEA’s mandatory drug test on celebrities and the disclosure of the 31 artists who resulted positive. JM, in response, does agree with the procedure as he thinks that this is just fair, however, he also expressed his concern on the brutality of some practices where it comes to the point of taking away the lives of drug users and pushers.
“Kasi, kami po (mga artista), sabi nga nila, pare-parehas lang din naman tayo, pero we have social responsibility to set an example.”
“Huwag lang po sanang masyadong masaklap ‘yung pagtrato sa kanila kasi umabot na sa point na pinapatay na ang iba, walang death penalty pero they’re good as dead.”
With that he shared his three year stay in rehabilitation, he expressed that the ones caught aren’t just addicts but rather victims. They have gone through trials in life and just lost their direction, but this doesn’t define their whole identity.
“Tatlong taon po akong nasa loob ng rehab. Araw-araw, kasama ko, mga adik, pusher. And hindi lang po sila adik, hindi lang po sila nag-take ng drugs or whatever. May pinagdaanan sila na hindi nila kinaya and they chose a different path to patch it up and to move on, to fight.”
That is why, JM added, that he is in a current position where he sets an example to others that they too can change for the better. Though he is still undergoing treatment, he assured that this is a continues fight that can be addressed.
“Ako, I’m in this position ngayon na maging example na hindi lang kami hanggang do’n. And kung ano po ‘yung makakatulong na ginagawa ng PDEA, eh all-out support po, 100 percent, I’m willing to give my pee, anytime, anywhere.”
“I still go to my doctor, may meds, I exercise, I talk to people, I stay with my family, I stay close to them, relate to them, with my peers, sa mga kasama ko sa rehab, I fight. I fight a good fight.”
JM de Guzman will star in the upcoming romantic film Last Fool Show, together with sexy star Arci Muñoz. This is directed by Eduardo Roy Jr. and is set to be released under Star Cinema on April 10.
