Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach cited that playing superhero roles is one of her dreams, so if she is given the chance to portray Darna, she would gladly accept it with open arms.
After Liza Soberano discontinued her role as Darna, due to physical complications, the slot was made open for new artists and one of the names mentioned was that of Pia Wurtzbach.
In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Pia reacted positively to the suggestion of many that she plays Darna. She even referred to the role as iconic and sought after thus doing such character is really a lifetime honor.
“I’m very flattered that they think I can play the role of Darna. It’s an iconic role, it’s a very sought-after role, it’s the role of a lifetime.”
She stated that if given the chance, she is willing to undergo the necessary preparations and workout just to be able to give justice to the character, emphasizing that she will give all her best.
“Kung papalarin na ibibigay sa akin ‘yung role na Darna, tatanggapin ko. I will work hard, I will train, I will attend workshops. Ibibigay ko lahat ng lakas ko. But, of course, it’s ABS-CBN’s decision in the end to see who is perfectly fit to play the role.”
Capturing the superheroine Darna is a dream role. With no hesitations, she would really audition for it if such opportunity is open and given.
“Yeah, of course! If I find out that they’re open to have me audition, then I’m going to try. Why not? . . . It’s everybody’s dream. It’s a dream role for me to play a superhero. If it happens, it happens. If not, then that’s also fine.”
Behind all the anticipation, Pia, however, feels saddened for actress Liza Soberano that she won’t anymore be doing Darna. Knowing that Liza already put so much effort during her preparations for the role.
“Nalungkot ako talaga, kasi kaibigan ko na rin si Liza.”
“I remember talking to her about the movie ‘Darna,’ while we were doing ‘ASAP’ in Australia, her preparation and how she was really excited about it.”
‘Yung feeling na… Alam mo ‘yung, sa ‘yo na, e, and then may mga things na hindi natin ma-control. I feel bad for her. I also messaged her. I can just imagine what it feels like. I feel really bad for what happened.”
