Derek Ramsay is now an official Kapuso talent, after signing a contract with GMA Network today. Before he became one of the sought-after leading men in showbiz, Derek got his first appearance on TV in a segment called “Pool Watch” on ‘Eat Bulaga.’
In 2017, the new Kapuso recruit bagged the Best Actor Award in the 2017 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) movie “All of You” where he worked together with the Kapuso Ultimate Star Jennylyn Mercado.
It was revealed during his sit-down interview with GMANetwork.com last March 29 that the actor sought advice from friends and co-stars to know more about the working environment in GMA Network.
However, they always ended up with the same statement: “Yes, and lahat parehong sinasabi sobrang mababait ang mga tao dun. And sobrang madaling katrabaho and that’s the regular thing I hear from everybody that I’ve asked.”
The new Kapuso actor also explained that his family greatly influenced his decision with regard to signing his contract with GMA Network.
He received words of encouragement and all-out support from his parents namely, Derek Ramsay Sr. and Remedios ‘Medy’ Baggao-Ramsay, to switch network and become a Kapuso talent.
“Kasi in showbiz, napansin mo every decision you make, it extends to your family. Like, if I do a teleserye, it extends to your family in a sense na you won’t have time for them. So for me, I always consult and see how they feel about it and they are very, very supportive. After the meetings, after nakausap ko na ‘yung mga bosses, my dad and my mom was like, ‘You know, Derek should do this.'”
Prior to the signing of contract with GMA Network, Derek opened up that he wanted to lie low from showbiz, pursue a career in golf, and be a professional golfer.
“Kasi ako, parang I think it’s time for me to hang-up everything and then go for my dream of becoming a pro golfer. I think that’s what I want to do, maybe a movie here and there.”
He added, “Pero I really want to try to becoming a pro golfer. But after sitting down with family I was so shocked kasi I thought they would be so happy because they could get to see more of me. So they were very, very pushy na gawin ko ‘to and now that I’ve made the decision they are very, very happy.”
