With the Filipino voter in mind, CNN Philippines hosts another special presentation in the lead up to the May 13th Midterm Elections. The CNN Philippine Senatorial Debate will be held on Saturday, April 27th, 5PM, at the Quadricentennial Pavilion of the University of Santo Tomas, the very same venue of the CNN Philippines Vice Presidential Debate on April 10, 2016.
This senatorial debate is the culmination of seven CNN Philippines senatorial forums and numerous interviews with 40 of the 62 candidates who are vying for 12 seats that will complete the 24-member Senate.
“Our goal is to provide Filipino voters a chance to make side-by-side comparison of candidates’ positions and policies,” says Armie Jarin-Bennett, President of CNN Philippines/Nine Media Corporation.
The debate will focus on three themes: Keeping Filipinos Safe, Improving the Lives of Filipinos and Building for the Future of every Filipino. It will be moderated by CNN Philippines Chief anchor/correspondent Pia Hontiveros and Senior anchor/correspondent Pinky Webb.
Senatorial aspirants who will participate in the debate are Gary Alejano, Raffy Alunan, Glenn Chong, Neri Colmenares, Ronald Dela Rosa, Chel Diokno, JV Ejercito, Samira Gutoc, Florin Hilbay, Rommy Macalintal, and Erin Tañada.
The contenders will go head-to-head on the most important issues that matter most to every Filipino. Based on the debate guidelines, candidates will each have a minute to answer general and specific questions. A candidate will be given another 30-seconds to further explain his or her answer in follow-up questions or during a rebuttal.
