The ‘blackface’ controversy was obviously added to the curiosity of the Pinoy viewers to watch ABS-CBN’s ‘MMK.’ Despite the debate on Aeta portrayal on social media, ABS-CBN aired the controversial episode topbilled by Maymay Entrata, as the idealistic Aeta beauty queen, Judith Manap from Mariveles, Bataan who defied the norms and used her position as a beauty queen to give back to her own people.
The episode also showed Judith (Maymay) and her family suffering from discrimination all their lives. But when the opportunity to be the Aeta tribe’s representative at the “Mutya ng Biaan” came, Judith discovered a strength she never knew she had. Judith ranked 9th in Mutya ng Mariveles 2019.
The hashtag #MMKBusilakNaKorona along with related topics, Maymay and Judith became a hot trending topic last Saturday night. The show’s official hashtag breached 1 million tweets as the viewers took to Twitter their reactions from Maymay, and other cast’s portrayal and the plight of Manap and her family, especially during the beauty competition.
