- Dante Gulapa begged off on his guesting stint on ‘FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano’.
- Both wife and road manager Emeline denied the said offer.
- Gulapa’s reason for ‘macho dancing’ was due to a financial crisis.
Internet sensation Dante Gulapa took the online world by storm after posting on his social media account a video of him dancing provocatively. It trended and has been the stuff of memes as Netizens found Gulapa’s ‘macho dancing’ funny, they even suggested different songs for his dance moves.
After Dante went viral, various projects lined-up, he even sought advise from Wilbert Tolentino, the former Mr. Gay World Philippines 2009 and ex-manager of Mader Sitang.
According to Tolentino, one of the projects that were offered to Dante was to be part of ABS-CBN’s longest-running action-drama series ‘FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano,’ however, Gulapa denied the offer since his wife-manager Emeline didn’t approve of it.
“Gusto kasi siyang itali ng teleserye ni Coco Martin. Ayaw ng asawa niyang si Emeline, na siyang road manager niya.”
In an interview on ‘Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho’, Emeline admitted that she was against that viral video and she wasn’t exactly a fan of his dance moves for the reason that their kids are all girls.
“Yung mga ginagawa niya na iyan, against talaga ako. Number one, puro babae ang mga anak ko kasi.”
But she was surprised how popular Dante had become after the video was uploaded and became viral, she later relented and told her husband to do what he wants.
It was also disclosed that the video was created and uploaded due to financial woes. It somehow compelled Dante to do the said ‘macho dancing.’
“Hindi po ako nahiya na ganun, kasi wala naman po akong ginagawa…nagsayaw lang naman ako at alam ko naman kung ano ang bawal at hindi. Nabaon po kasi kami sa utang. Talagang na ano po kami…talaga wala po kami makuhanan ng pagkain, pati po pagbayad sa bahay at tubig, ilaw.”
Aside from dancing, he also took other means of income, from selling longganisa and pawning cellphones and motorcycles.
On March 23, Gulapa’s life story was featured on GMA Network’s ‘Magpakailanman’ titled Viral Macho Dancer (The Dante Gulapa Story).
