‘Magpakailanman’ show host and GMA News pillar Mel Tiangco was recently awarded the 2019 Annual Peace Award by the Rotary International District 3830, making her the first awardee among all journalists nationwide.

Tiangco was also awarded the Paul Harris Fellow recognition during the organizational 114th Anniversary.
She was cited for embodying the Rotarian motto of service above self, one who “excels not only in her professional career as a multi-awarded news anchor and program host of GMA Network’s ‘Magpakailanman’ drama anthology but also in her inspiring humanitarian work as the founder and ambassador of the GMA Kapuso Foundation (GMAKF).”
She’s been outstanding in her time as executive vice president and COCO for 20 years, and even implemented and conceptualized the foundation’s sustainable programs and projects while leading her team of public servants. She was subject to retire last 2016 but instead of settling down, Tiangco continued to serve as GMAKF’s ambassador.

Mel Tiangco serves not just as GMA Network’s asset but our nation’s asset as well, because of her excellence in promoting peace with her dedicated service. The Rotary Award is given by the Rotary International to recipients who represent the ideals of peace, fellowship, and understanding.
The first Filipina President of the Philippines, Cory Aquino, and President Fidel Ramos were also a recipients of the same award.
