Vocalist of the Filipino rock band Rocksteddy, Teddy Corpuz, made a clarification on his statement about his comments on rock artists that swear during their performances. He clarified that he was not really aiming the comment at JK Labajo, the singer of the hit track “Buwan,” when Teddy said that rock artists who swear during concerts are not cool.
He said in his recent press conference, which was held for his movie “Papa Pogi,” how he would have handle the situation, rather than swearing to the fan. In addition, he also said that rock artists who swear publicly are not cool.
Corpuz said that “It’s not cool” for the artists to say something like that during concert performances. “You would not gain the respect of other people, listeners,” Corpuz added.
On “Tonight with Boy Abunda” Wednesday Night, he explained that he was not really referring to JK Labajo as half of his comments on the issue were already not about JK Labajo. He stated that the question he answered was about rock artists, in general. He said that “If ever mayroon akong regret, is siguro probably next time I won’t comment na lang, ang linis din kasi nung question.”
What do you think about iyong mga rakistang nagmumura?’

He said that his comment wasn’t really referring to JK Labajo alone. According to Corpuz, the question was in general on what would be his comments if rock artists swearing in concerts were cool or not. For him, the question was simple as that. It just became complicated because of the recent swearing of JK Labajo which lead to the issue itself.
Later on, Teddy Cruz shared that he was already able to clarify his side with JK Labajo, following his reaction for the singer’s swearing on stage at the Rakrakan Festival 2019 last March. Teddy had personally talked with JK to clarify things up. In-explain ko lang sa kanya na I was at my ‘Papa Pogi’ press conference that time and off topic tinanong lang sa akin ‘nong reporter,” he said clearly.
Teddy added that they were able to explain both their sides during their conversation.
The Rocksteddy frontman also apologized to JK for his comment. According to Teddy, he did not know how to refuse the reporter’s question since it was his first time having a big press conference. “Nag-sorry din ako sa kanya na parang hindi ko rin alam kung paano ako hihindi sa isang reporter since this is my first big role movie and I was in my media conference with a lot of people, a lot of media na tinanong ako about it.
‘Yung mga ibang artista, may mura pa nga sa songs nila but it doesn’t mean that we are bad or bad influence,” he stated.
Teddy said that he also gave advice to JK Labajo during their conversation. “Nagpayo rin ako sa kanya, ‘uy matagal-tagal pa ‘yung career mo so steady lang sa mga bashers o sa emotions, steady lang, mahaba pa ‘yung career mo,” he said to the singer.
Labajo was caught on a video swearing in front of a large crowd after being triggered with chants bearing the name of Darren Espanto, whom he had an issue with last year.
Later in 2018, the singer of Buwan, JK Labajo was linked to an issue with Darren Espanto for using the word “Bakla” as a derogatory word, which lead to a Twitter War and a little noise on the showbiz world. It also appeared that Darren Espanto didn’t have enough proof as he was about to sue JK Labajo for the issue, which made a spark in the Twitter and led to a fanwar over a phrase that Labajo allegedly posted “@Espanto2001 gayness at it’s finest”, which Espanto took as a personal attack.
However, not all netizens went for the war and took sides, some netizens criticized both parties for using ‘being gay’ as a garble. The netizens also stated in their tweets that the others found the war not good for their careers, with some comparing it to children fighting.
